For my daughter's 10th birthday, we had a rock star party (it had NOTHING to do with Hannah Montana). INVITATIONS: I made VIP/All Access passes using card stock, star stickers and Fender
guitar stickers. I printed all the party information on the back, put them in plastic holders with strings that could be worn like necklaces and sent them to all the party guests.
DECORATIONS: We cut guitar pictures out of a guitar catalog and glued them to colorful construction paper with appropriate messages like Have a rockin' birthday". We also cut out pictures of famous guitarists and wrote messages (like pretend autographs) to the birthday girl. The party itself celebrated the different eras of rock and roll and each of 4 rooms had a different theme. The kitchen was the 50's room. It was decorated like a 50's diner with appropriate 50's music playing. Our family room was the 80's room. I played videos on the television of a famous 80's rock band (Def Leppard) and included 80's album covers in the decorations. The plates and napkins were in bright neon colors and I used guitar picks as confetti on the table. The most fun room was the dining room which was representative of the 60's & 70's era. I purchased black felt with sparkles and used it to cover the two doorways into the room and also pulled down the window shades to make it darker. I lit the room with a black light as well as a spinning multicolored light AND a lava lamp. Again I used the album covers of bands from the era and spelled out phrases like "groovy" and "far out" in fluorescent letters on the table. The table cover was white so it really glowed in the black light. Again I played music from the era. Our living room was the modern day room decorated appropriately with cd's and the guitar posters we made. ACTIVITIES: The Guitar Hero game was the favorite activity of the party (the birthday girl got to play the first song). I also made up a trivia quiz about classic rock bands and the winner received "Rock Star" beverages. COSTUMES: The birthday girl dressed in full rock star attire and some other guests (myself included) dressed in concert shirts from our favorite bands. PARTY SNACKS: There was food in each room to match each "era". 50's snacks included onion rings tater tots tuna casserole and cherry cokes. 60's-70's snacks were swedish meatballs "Fleetwood Mac and cheese" Jiffy Pop popcorn and a beverage fountain of fruit punch. 80's snacks included pizza rolls chicken nuggets and spinach dip. Modern day snacks were taco dip deli spirals and green bean fries. I also put out a big bowl of butter mints that had "rock and roll" wrappers. CAKE: It was store bought and decorated with music notes and stars and the message "Have a rockin' 10th birthday". FAVORS: Goodie bags for the kids included glittery star shaped glasses Pop Rocks rock star bracelets guitar shaped bubble necklaces and rock and roll temporary tattoos. "
