Rock & Roll Party- 2yr old: For my daughters 2nd birthday I decided to do something with music because she loves to dance.
My inspiration came when I found a rock & roll cd with little kids singing the songs. So I planned an old fashioned rock $ roll party that really is geared for adults but made it suitable for children. My invitation idea came from parents magazine. I bought plastic neon tambourines at party city and glued the party detail on the center of the tambourine. It simply said Lets Rock & Roll on my daughter's 2nd Birthday with time and place. The invite had a picture of old 45 records, fries, hamburgers, and milkshakes on it. I also left a note to bring your tambourine to the party. I mailed them in padded envelopes. We had the party outside under a covered patio. I had picnic tables with bright blue gingham table cloths. I found the old red hamburger baskets at an outlet store and had them as place settings for each child. Next to the basket I had party cups that said rock & roll and they were filled with hot pink napkins and hot pink utensils. Bright neon star shaped sunglasses were also placed at each place setting. I found plastic records that were used as the centerpieces. I also found balloon bouquets that said rock & roll. Other decorations included a life size plastic inflatable juke box, a record pinata, inflatable guitars, saxaphones, and microphones, tissue ice cream sundaes and other balloon bouquets in colors of purple, teal, white, hot pink, and black. We served chicken nuggets instead of hamburgers, because that is a toddler favorite, and cheetos. I bought old fashioned coke bottles for the adults and drink boxes for the kids. The cake was a hot pink electric guitar that was about the size of a real guitar. We had the kids rock n roll cd playing and my plan was for the kids to dance and play their tambourine invites. Instead they had fun playing on her new swing set, but that was fine as long as they were having a good time and realisticaly it would probably be impossible to get all the 2yr olds together to play thier tambourines. Some of the children had fun playing with the inflatable guitars. My daughter's outfit also fit the rock & roll theme. I found some shortall overalls with a hot pink t-shirt. The shoralls said rock & roll in hot pink and had old 45 records on it. Her outfit was one of my other inspirations. The kids all went home with party bags that had a plastic kazoo, harmonica, and clapper. The bag also contained guitar shaped bubble necklaces from oriental trading company and the Wiggles fruit snacks. Each child also took a copy of the cd playing at her party. I made cd labels with her picture and the top of the cd read my daughter's name saying it was her favorite rock & roll tunes and the bottom simply said thanks for coming to my party! Very inexpensive party favor if you know how to copy cds. The party was a hit and all the kids had a wonderful time including my daughter. Her favorite song right now is I love rock & roll by Joan Jett. She sings it all the time with her inflatable microphone.
