Recording Studio 8yr

For my daughter's 8th birthday we had a "recording studio" party.  My daughter's godfather is in a band so he provided the equipment but I believe you can find someone to come to the house. We had 9 8yr olds. including by daughter and she named the group "The Drama Queens".  (What else would 8 yr. old girls be!)  I made a iron-on print using a computer program and made t-shirts with the name of the group and logo.  We decided to have 3 color shirts (pink, purple and blue) just so it wouldn't look monotonous.  I bought feather boas at Walmart for 88 cents (they were very skinny but it beat spending $4.50) and had one for each girl.  I also made headpieces using part of the boa and gluing it to a headband.  I got sequined sunglasses, sliver necklaces and bracelets for them to wear. When each girl arrived, she was brought upstairs to "wardrobe" to change then into my daughter's room for a quick rehearsal. I had lyric sheet made up to help them out. We did a "photo shoot" too.  I used a plastic tablecloth as the backdrop and hung it on my china closet.  I printed a banner with the group name on it and covered it in glitter (rather than use all the colored ink on my printer). I had stars with each girl's name on the them hung up as well. We did individual pcitures and a group one. Then downstairs to record. We opted to use songs with words vs. karoake so that if the girls didn't know the words there wouldn't be silence on the recording.  We were able to do 6 songs. I had them "take five" for some snacks and then we had pizza when we were done. After that we played music and they could sing or dance for a bit. While we had cake and opened presents, my husband and our friend downloaded all the music onto CD's that had a cover with the logo and title of album (If the crown fits...) and group and the girls names inside. Each girl got a copy along with a goody bag with make-up, "autograph" pen, disco ball keychains, frame, stickers.  This was a lot of fun because the girls weren't shy about singing. There is a lot of technical stuff to do but you could use a karoake machine and still have fun.
