For my son's ninth birthday he wanted a rock and roll party.
All I could find were Hannah Montana or High School Musical...neither were fitting of a boy. So I did find a few ideas on this site to help me put together a terrific party for him. We started by making back stage passes on the computer. The front read Tanner-Slam 2008 Summer Tour" and had a cool graphic of a guitar. The back read " VIP All Access Back Stage Pass. You're invited to party like a rock star at Tanner's 9th Birthday! Date....time: 6-9 PM....Venue.....Have your peopel call my people at......". We laminated them and placed them on a lanyard and hand delivered them to all of his friends (28 to be exact). We used red black and silver color scheme. My sister and I hung an enormous amount of red and black streams all over the room. We also took a platform and lined it with red rope lights red and black streamers and we used two black plastic table cloths as a back drop and curtain on our stage. We purchased red black and silver mylar balloons from the Dollar Tree to surround the stage. At the party the kids were greeted at the doors of our church's fellowship hall by the security team and had to show their 'back stage pass' to get in. Once inside the kids were invited to eat with the band (my son). We had the largest pizza in the world cake ice cream chips and soda. The cake had another cool concert type graphic found on the computer. After eating we divided the kids into groups and let them rotate between different stations we had set up. Station #1: Tattoo Parlor--you can't be a rock star with out one. All the kids put on temporary tattoos or had my son apply one with his air brush tattoo kit. Station #2: Karaoke on the stage with inflatable guitars from Oriental Trading. Station #3: Design your own CD cover. At this station we had burned CD's for each child with my son's favorite songs. The kids then decorated the cover of the case with stickers and glitter etc. After the cases were finished they could get Tanner's autograph on the CD or case. Once everyone had a tatto and a CD we just let them rock out to Tanner's favorite tunes with their guitars and jel-spike bracelets (also Oriental Trading). Even the moms got into the fun we did a little bit of the electric slide...just enough to embarass our kids. At the end of the three hours we calmed things down a little with an Unplugged jam session with my husbands friend John. He played some great classic rock and let the kids check out his guitar. We were having so much fun we lost track of time and hurriedly opened gifts during the last 20 minutes of the party. As the kids left with their parents they each took an autographed CD an inflatable guitar the jel-spike bracelets and some rock and roll rubber duckies--all from Oriental Trading Co. I also gave out all of the extra tattoos for kids to take home. Another great party for a fraction of the cost of skating bowling or the arcade and it truly reflects what my son loves...we are already getting phone calls about next year's party!"
