Our daughter turned 9 in May. As we have not had "big" parties for her for the past few years, we always try to have a theme party.
This year we decided on a make-over party. Since little girls love make up, but typically aren't allowed to wear it, we thought this would be fun but still not something that would make a girl think she was only pretty if she wore make up. I decided to let the girls choose to be made over as a rock star, a movie star or a space chick. Then I went to a local Dollar Store and bought appropriate colors. All of the girls except 1 wanted to be rock stars. At that point we decided to let them do a "concert" after they were made over. They called themselves "the Chicks" and did lip sync to the spice girls. Since our daughter has instruments, they all played an instrument. As a deejay, I have many lights that I then set up for them. Of course lights are not necessary. One could always purchase a few colored bulbs for the lamps! We took pictures of their concert and gave the girls copies. As goodie bags we gave hair chips, friendship bracelets and pencils. One very important thing is to ask the moms and dads if it is ok for their child to wear make up! The party was the talk of the school!
