Princess Party - 4 year old  We just had a wonderful princess party for my daughter who just turned four. We made invitations that had a stamped castle on the cover(rainbow colors - big & juicy was the brand name of ink pad; stamper was from Joann Fabrics for $1.49).  We printed the inside of the card "Come join us for a princess-themed birthday party" and included a line that prince/princess attire was optional. We decorated the inside of the card with a birthday cake and birthday hat stamper design.  The afternoon of the party, we arranged for Cinderella to call my daughter and wish her a happy birthday. Disney offers this on their princess website for $2.49, but you could even have a friend do it. It was a huge hit with her and got her in the party spirit. She wore a Cinderella costume complete with accessories we found at Costco very reasonably priced. We had 9 kids - 6 girls, 3 boys - in attendance. Most of the kids dressed in princess attire.  We had a princess music CD playing as background music (Ultimate Princess Collection).  We started off with a coloring activity.  We just printed off sheets from various websites. We printed several "poses" of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, and Ariel.  We also printed some Shrek, Donkey, and Genie from Aladdin for the boys to color.  Once this was done, the kids made crowns, which became their party hats.  We just used construction paper and made the template with a tiera look by tracing a triangle cookie cutter on top of the template. The kids decorated the crowns with "jewels" - press-on earrings that we got at the dollar store. These looked fantastic and the earrings were just the right size and weight for the crowns.  Many of the kids wore theirs the entire party!  After this, we played three games.  First was Put the Slipper on Cinderella - my homemade version of pin the tail on the donkey.  I just blew up a picture of Cinderella from a coloring book onto poster sized paper and then made slippers for each kid to tape on. We used a piece of princess fabric for the blindfold. The second game was Pass the Poison Apple, based on Snow White's story.  It was just our version of Hot Potato. We used the music "Someday My Prince will Come" from our princess CD to do the game. Our third game was Free Tinker Bell from Her Lantern.  We made miniature cut-outs of Tinker Bell (printed from Disney website) and one of them was colored green. We put one Tinker Bell in each balloon and also put glitter a.k.a. pixie dust in the balloons, too. We sprayed "Pixie Dust" on the kids (a bottle of apple body spray I decorated with pink tissue paper and mulit-colored ribbons) for luck, then each kid chose a balloon, and popped the balloon with a toothpick to free Tinker Bell. Whoever had the green-colored Tinker Bell won the prize.(We played this game outside.)The kids really seemed to enjoy all the games. After the games, we ate, had our cake and ice cream cups (so much easier for kid-parties than a big tub of ice cream - No scooping, no melting mess on plates!).  We opened presents and my daughter sat by her princess couch with her friends to do this.  We ended the party with "horse & carriage" rides. My husband hooked up his wagon to our lawn tractor and put carpet samples to line the wagon.  He drove around our yard and our cul de sac.  The kids loved this and he did, too.  We were going to decorate the wagon as a carriage with cardboard we were going to use from a wardrobe box. We were going to paint this and tape it to the wagon.  We ran out of time to do so and honestly it didn't make much of a difference to the kids. I just had them close their eyes before the ride began and told them to imagine they were riding in a carriage and it worked just fine.  My daughter truly enjoyed her party and all of the kids seemed to have a great time. As for the refreshments - we served a pink princess punch (cranberry raspberry juice mixed with pina colada non alcoholic drink mix and raspberry gingerale), princess sandwiches I cut out (PBJ) with a press n seal cookie cutter, and adult food (Ham BBQs, green beans almondine (the kids loved these, too), rigatoni). We made cut-out cookies with the number 4 and also crowns, decorated in pink, purple, and light blue. The cake was done in the shape of a castle and was beautiful. The baker used purple pipe cleaners as a way to make the door, and various ornamental finishing touches.
