For our daughter Anna Beth's 1st birthday, we decided on a princess party.  For the invitations we used pink cardstock and printed a castle outline in black.  Over that we tore the edges of vellum and attatched the two with pink eyelets and ribbon.  The vellum was printed with "Our little princess Anna Beth is turning one! We request the honor of your presence as we celebrate." We then listed the date and time and for the address we used "Kendrick Castle". We used irridescent glitter paint to highlight certain parts of the castle on the vellum. This was then put on blue cardstock that was folded into a square for mailing.  On the outside square where the address would go, we stamped Cinderella in gold and little tiny wands. The cake was a strawberry cake cut into 3 sizes of rectangles.  We iced each in white icing, patting the icing for texture, and stacked them all together. We iced 5 empty clean tomato paste cans. We put 1 on each corner and used 1 in the center.  On top of each can we put an iced sugar ice cream cone that had a toothpick with a flag-shaped cut out like it was flying.  We had Anna Beth's monogram on each flag. Around the edges of the cake we alternated sugar cubes and put tiny pink stars on top of each cube. For the doors and windows of the castle we took pink wafer cookies with the tops rounded and pushed them into the icing. For a dramatic effect, the cake was placed on a tall pedestal with tulle bunched around.  We built a castle for the kids to play in out of 3 large boxes connected and arched doors and windows cutout. This was all painted white and the kids loved running through it. We also got some "blue board" at our local home center (this is a blue styrofoam used for insulation) and cut it into the shape of columns and an arched header. We painted lines and details with spray paint which melts the blue board to look like grout lines and gives a stone look. We placed the columns on either side of our carport, where the party was held, and the header over that to look like a castle entrance.  Anna Beth's grandfather also took it upon himself to create a carriage from plywood, PVC, and gold bicycle wheels.  This was decorated with white tulle and white satin and used for pictures. It was gorgeous!! For each boy attending, we made sceptors out of a styrofoam ball on a wooden dowel.  We wrapped the ball with fuzzy chenille stems of different colors.  The boys also got a crown as a party hat. The girls got wands made of silver stars glued to wooden dowels with silver ribbons tied at the base of the star.  For their hats we took standard white and pink party hats and made a streamer of tulle coming out of the top. For Anna Beth's princess hat, We took pink satin fabric glued to poster board and formed a cone shape and hot glued together.  We glued fuzzy chenille stems around the bottom edge and a plastic tiara in the front.  We also made streamers of tulle and pink ribbon coming out of the top. The party was a huge success with vegetables and dip, chicken fingers, maccaroni and cheese, and cake. The party favors included bracelets and ring pops and plastic swords for the boys.  Everything was beautiful and special for our little princess!
