I just celebrated my daughter's 3rd birthday with a Princess Party at our home. We used the Disney Princess theme for invitations and party ware, available at Wal-Mart.
For decoration, we set up our 10x10 white canopy tent on our patio and draped the poles and top edges with lavender tulle fabric. (I used about 30 yards, but it was very inexpensive!) We draped purple crepe paper inside the tent to cover the "ceiling". I also made "flags" from poster board and wooden dowels and attached them at the four corners of the tent to complete the "castle" effect. I hung a Princess pull-string pinata from the center support of the tent. The tent served as the craft area, with a table set up with all craft supplies, as well as a place for the girls to eat at their own picnic table. The party guests were girls only, ages 2 to 4, with a total of 6 girls and their moms. The activities were simple and included: 1. coloring pages printed off Disney.com of each Princess, 2. decorate a cardboard tierra with jewels - a craft kit from OTC, 3. "treasure hunt" - I spray painted easter eggs gold and then adorned them with plastic jewels. Inside each egg, I placed novelty jewelry from the Dollar store, such as neclaces, earrings, rings, candy bracelets, and stickers. The girls hunted for the "treasures" in the yard and placed their eggs in purple baskets from the Dollar store that I spray painted with silver glitter paint to give a sparkley effect. I also tied each basket with a pink tulle bow. 4. Pinata which I filled with some candy, as well as ring pops and toy rings and necklaces to continue the jewelry theme. Each girl also used her basket to collect the pinata goodies. Food: The party was during lunch so I served food for both kids and adults. The kids' meal included Smuckers Uncrustables sandwiches, chips, and fresh fruit salad. The adults had wrap sandwiches, broccoli salad, and the rest. I also served mini pecan pies and choc. chip cookie treats. As a special touch, I made "majic wand cookies" -sugar cookies in the shape of stars on cookie sticks. I decorated them with candy crystals and inserted them into flower pots that I painted gold and decorated with Princess stickers so they looked like they were growing out of the pots! The cake was a four-layer castle cake complete with towers made from upside-down ice cream cones. As a final favor, each girls received a Disney Princess watch and sticker sheet. This was my first "single sex" party (I also have a son) and it was so much less stressful by keeping the guests to a minimum and having girls only. The activities were few and simple and just right for this age group, with plenty of time for free play in the yard. It was a delightful day for our little princess and her friends!
