Today, for my daughter's 6th birthday, we had a princess party.  I knew months ago that she wanted this theme, so I had plenty of time to pick up things as I found them (so it wouldn't cost a fortune all at once!). The invitations were scrolls that read, 'Hear ye! Hear ye! You are hereby invited to the celebration of Princess Chelsea's sixth birthday' etc. They were rolled up and sealed with a gold sticker and red ribbon.  Each one was addressed to 'Lady' and the girl's name (eg: Lady Kasey).  We did the colours in dark purple, gold and silver. I made purple banners out of bristol board with gold glitter around the edges and a glitter 'S' for our last name in calligraphy.  I also made a throne out of bristol board and attached it to Chelsea's rocking chair.  We had a group of 3 balloons (1 of each colour) above each banner, as well as helium filled balloons grouped in 3's. We also had a huge mylar balloon with the Disney princesses on it. There were purple streamers across the ceiling and a group of balloons in the 3 colours was in the middle of the ceiling. Upon arriving, wearing their prettiest dresses, each girl was given a (cone shaped) party hat which I had painted their names on, to decorate with stickers. When they were done decorating, I glued tulle on to make a long veil in the back.  We then divided them into teams for 'find the apples'. They reached into a bowl filled with papers and drew out either a picture of a red apple or a green one to determine their team. Then the teams set off to find their apples, which were hidden all over the house.  The winning team got rings, but everyone got candy necklaces for playing. We then played pin the kiss on the frog (which I painted on bristol board), pass the poisoned apple (like pass the present, and the outed kids got bracelets), then we attempted to slay the dragon (pinata), but King Daddy's assistance was needed to finally get it to spill the candy! (which I put in seven individual bags inside the pinata so there would no chaos or arguments!)  After Chelsea opened her presents, they had cake, which was shaped like a castle, and ginger ale in plastic wine glasses, and before they threw their plates out, I told them to look under them for a crown sticker, and whoever had it won a prize.  We then played 'Who knows Princess Chelsea the Best?', and it was funny some of the things they couldn't get, like the colour of her room, even though they had just been in it for the apple hunt!(But everyone got a ring for trying)  We then played Princess Bingo and the ones who didn't get 'bingo' got stick on earrings. The last game was pass the present to the story of Cinderella.  Everytime I said 'Cinderella' they passed the present till I was done. I did have to rush and edit the story a bit because they were getting a bit fed up! The kids who didn't win got a package of candy. All the prizes for the games were things like wands, dress up shoes, purses etc. The loot bags were actually Halloween trick or treat bags I found in October with the Disney princesses on them.  I filled them with Cinderella stickers, colouring pages from the Disney site, ring pops, Disney princess gummies,a silk rose, CD's of Disney Princess music, crown barrettes and other princess type things. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun.  I was exhausted by the time the last kid left and my daughter was pretty pooped too, but everyone had a great time. She will also be bringing thank you cards to school on Monday that we made on the computer with Sleeping Beauty on them.  She was very happy to have this theme and the absolute best part was planning it with her and working on the preparations together.
