Party Supplies

June 2001  For my daughters first birthday party I wanted to do something fun but not with a theme from the party stores.  So, we decided to do a Princess theme and make our own decorations and games.  First we made the invitations on the computer and wrote:  Hear Ye, Hear Ye, King Joseph and Queen Shannon, of the house of Castillo request the honor of you presence in Celebration of Princess /Taryn's First Birthday.  Join us at our Castle for Challenges only the greatest of Knights can conquer, and a feast fit for a Queen.  There was a crown in one corner of the invitation and a queens crown in the other.  Then we decided on the colors of Purple, White and Silver. We bought Purple streamers, balloons and plates.  We also bought white streamers, balloons, plates and plastic ware. We found an idea on this website by making little castles out of baby juice jars (we used the new Gerber plastic kind they now come in).  We spray painted them purple and put little confetti stars on them and hot glued a door (black construction paper) and the triangle roof on top) I also spray painted the roof with a little silver so that it was black and silver and didn't look so dark. We are filling them with Hershey's kisses.  For the cake, we are using the Petal cake pan from Wilton and making a similar cake to one found in the 1996 Wilton cake book. I will use the medium size petal pan and the smallest pan and bake one big and 2 small and place them on top of each other. I will then use the white tubes (3) and put them on the top of the smaller cakes. I will cut three sugar cones so that they fit nicely on the tubes. Then to decorate! The cake will be mostly white with little purple flowers scattered around.  I will write Happy 1ST Birthday, Princess Taryn! The menu with consist of a meat tray, a veggie tray, rolls to make sandwiches, chips soda and a fruit tray. We bought plastic champagne glasses to decorate the table and use for holding mints in.  We bought some silver and purple stars from the party store to also decorate with. For the games we are going to have a scavenger hunt to find the missing "Wands" which are suckers wrapped with purple tissue paper with Two special wands in silver. These 2 will earn you a special prize. Each child will have to find two and they can keep the candy as the prize.  Next we will play "Pin the Star on the Wand".  I used poster board and made a silver glitter stick (the wand part) and used purple craft foam to make the star.  Played just like pin the tail on the donkey.  Then we are going to play "Pass the Wand".  The kids will sit in a circle and pass a home make wand around every time I say the word Princess.  I am going to read the book the Princess and the Pea. If there is time to kill we might play Queen, Queen, Princess (duck , duck , Goose).  Then after the Birthday Princess blows out the candles and eats she will sit in a specially decorated chair and open her gifts. Then we will have the Piņata which is a huge number 1 stuffed with 10lbs of candy (assorted) and toys bought from www.Pinata.com. For prizes we bought crayons and coloring books, Fun balls, Matchbox cars for the boys, water guns and floaties.  For the goody bags the kids will get a homemade pencil wand (plain brown pencil spray painted Purple with silver glitter sprinkled on, a star from craft foam inserted on the top and silver curly ribbon ).  They look very classy and cheaper to make than trying to buy for all the kids. They got rings which I also spray painted and put silver glitter on the top to match our theme, and bubbles.  Plus what ever they get from the piņata. if the kids want to hang out after they can jump on the trampoline, swing, play in the play house or the sand box.  Okay-I think that is all and I should be exhausted by now!!!!!! Hope this helps others looking for a Princess theme!
