For my daughter Emmy's 7th birthday we decided on a princess theme. Invitations were sent requesting guests dress as princesses. We converted our basement into a castle. We printed a picture
of a castle off the internet and enlarged it to poster size. Once our poster was painted in water colors, we spray painted "Chubbs" stackable baby diaper wipe containers gray.
We stacked them to resemble a castle. We placed the containers in front of the poster with a plastic sword, shield, and knight's hat for extra effect. I took plain purple party hats and hot glued hot pink tulle through the top. I also hot glued purple lace around the bottom edge of the hat and press on rhinestones above that. I made wands with gold pencils and gold poster board cut into stars for each girl. When guests arrived we gave them their wands and hats and had a digital picture taken behind the castle with Queen Emmy. We later used this as a thank you postcard for each invitee. The party tables were decorated with gold balloons and Disney princess balloons placed in Disney Princess plastic glasses as centerpieces. I also placed the wands in the glasses. I bought clear wine tasting goblets and decorated them with press on rhinestones. I wrote "Princess _______" with purple glitter paint for each girl. The glasses acted as place cards. My daughter's glass said Queen Emmy on it. For our buffet table I made the hot pink castle cake found on shindigz.com. I added a moat of blue icing and some mini Swedish fish as well as a crocodile made with green icing. We also had an ice cream sand castle cake-which was made out of a sand castle mold and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon . We had potato chips and assorted sandwiches which were cut out in various shapes: hearts, stars, diamonds etc. We served pink lemonade with red rose ice cubes. To make the roses I started freezing red fruit punch in my rose candy mold one week in advance. I stored the cubes in a freezer bag. I had a tray with store bought chocolate dipped cookies with castles and shields on them. I also made a tray of chocolate strawberries. Activities included standard party games-pass the parcel, "Kiss the handsome prince"-(the girls put on red lipstick and attempted to kiss a poster of Prince William blind folded- the 3 girls who made it closest to the lips won), a treasure hunt etc. I planned it so the girls played the games that couldn't be rigged first and the games which could be rigged last. Every one won a prize and enjoyed the day! I used the Disney Princess party supplies for decoration and favors. They have emery boards, compacts, and lip gloss rings which were adorable! I also gave ring pops, candy necklaces, and princess fruit roll ups. I placed a small princess book in each favor bag . The girls took home a gold balloon, favor bag, a prize and their personalized glasses. It was a fairy tale birthday my Emmy will never forget!
