For my daughter's fourth birthday we had a Princess party; not a DISNEY Princess party, just a "regular" princess party.
I printed the invitations on velum paper and rolled them into a scroll, tied with a pink ribbon. In Old English font, they said "Hear Ye. Hear Ye. Princess Emma invites you to celebrate her fourth birthday" Date, Time, "Kingdom" (location), etc To make sure everyone would dress up, I included "Attire" and wrote "Princess Casual". As the guests arrived they were escorted to the kitchen table (covered in .89 cent pink plastic table cloth) where they were able to decorate princess hats (pointed party hats in gold and silver metallic - 8 hats for a dollar at the dollar store). I'd added squares of chiffon fabric from the tops of each hat and had glitter glue sticks, "jewels" and shiny star stickers. They took the hats with them... Once all the guests had arrived, we played a few rounds of "Pass the Magic Wand". Like musical chairs, but my daughter had a scepter that we passed around. The winner got to help me pass out magical wands (bought at the dollar store) to all the girls. The cake was white with pink icing topped with a toy castle of my daughter's. The food was veggies, chips, dip and fruit. The dining room table was covered in a white paper table cloth with 2 colors of pink streamers (.39 cents/roll) 'woven' at each end. It was a nice touch. The plates, napkins and forks were in 2 different shades of pink as well. I was careful, however, not to have TOO much pink. It was all very subtle. For the goodie bags I found clear cellophane bags with white stars and tied them with gold star wire-garland (dollar store). Each bag was stuffed with any kind of pink candy I could find along with fruit roll-ups with pictures of the Disney princesses on them and a pack of Extra sugar-free gum in a pink wrapper. I'd also made rose suckers out of a candy mold and the candy wafers you can buy and melt in the microwave. Those turned out beautiful! Once we'd picked the theme, it was easy to find coordinating items. This was a very easy and inexpensive party that was a lot of fun to plan!
