For my son's first birthday party, we decided on a Rubber Ducky theme.
Invitation: I took a picture of my son in the bathtub filled with bubbles. I then went on Shutterfly.com and found a notecard that had rubber ducks as the border. The wording was as follows: Splish, Splash (name of child) is having his/her 1st Birthday Bash! Waddle over to the (location) pond at (location address) on (date of party) at (time of party). Give us a quack at (phone number) by (date) to let us know if you can make it. Everyone that called to RSVP commented on how cute the invitation was. Centerpieces: I found light blue plastic buckets and floated 4 rubber duckies in each. I then tied 3 balloons to each bucket handle: 1 blue, 1 yellow and 1 clear to look like a bubble. At least one of the balloons in each grouping was a "Happy 1st Birthday" balloon. My party was held at a banquet hall so I just used their white table cloths. Gift Table: I but a balloon centerpiece in the middle of the table for decoration. For the birthday cards, we wrapped a small box with rubber ducky printed wrapping paper and cut a slit in the top so people could just drop the cards inside. Cake: We ordered a sheet cake that was decorated white with a blue pond in the middle. We "floated" rubber duckies on the blue pond and the baker added frosted bubbles. For our son's smash cake, we used a similar design with a ducky on top. We used yellow and blue cake plates and napkins. Goody Bags: We bought blue 8x10 gift bags and stuck rubber ducky stickers on each side. We filled each bag with candy, a coloring book, crayons, bubbles, punch balloon and sidewalk chalk. For the kids under 1, we bought board books and a stuffed animal. Punch: We had blue punch and floated rubber ducks on top. I even lucked out and found an outfit for my son that had blue overalls with a yellow rubber ducky on the front!
