Party Supplies

We had a rubber duck party for our son's first birthday. We lived in downtown Chicago at the time and I had limited access to party items, but we went with an all yellow theme. I bought a number of bags of yellow balloons and streamers. I put yellow paper table cloths over the tables and I have a lot of yellow dishes that I used to serve food. We had a few rubber ducks and I borrowed more to put around as decorations and I also put out stuffed ducks. We ordered two dozen rubber ducks from Oriental trading and put those around too. I had made my own duck pattern out of some cardboard and then I used it to make color pages. I put a table with color pages and crayons out for the older kids who attended the party. I also decorated that table with a number of rubber ducks. I made a banner from the rubber duck pattern that said happy birthday using yellow construction paper. Each duck had a letter that I painted on with orange paint and then I connected them all together with yellow ribbon. I hung this over the food table. We had a photographer friend take pictures of our son at a park with a stuffed duck. I made picture board out of a bulletin board and yellow tissue paper. I put duck stickers around the edge and then put up the duck pictures and a few others. Around this I put up framed pictures of our son from birth to one year. We also had a table at the front with a decorative box and two papers. One was blank and I had a sign that asked people to write memories of our son and then put them in a box to be opened on his 16th birthday.   For food I had a few little ducks that I painted white and then painted a yellow duck on and wrote "duck feed." I put chex mix in these. I made a cheese ball in the shape of duck and then put cheddar cheese on the outside. I served this with crackers. I also had duck cookies that I made. I couldn't find a duck cookie cutter at first so I took one of my metal cookie cutters and bent it into a duck shape. Later I found a little duck cookie cutter so I actually made both and then had the "mom and baby" ducks. I just used premade dough and then I frosted them with lemon frosting which was yellow and very flavorful. I got lot of compliments on those. For the cake I just made a round two layers cake and put green coconut around the edge and blue frosting on top. Then I sprinkled blue sugar sprinkles on top. I put a number 2 on it and then two little rubber ducks. It was a little duck pond. For drinks I had a punch bowl of blue punch and ducks floating in it.   For party favors I gave the older kids duck necklaces from Oriental trading and the little ones I gave little rubber ducks. On each of these I attached a thank you note.   The party was so fun and we have great pictures from such a rubber duck extravaganza.
