I am currently planning my daughter Kayley's 1st birthday party, which I want to be really special! Her 1st birthday will take place in June (2005). My mother and I had the idea a few months
back to do a rubber ducky theme since Kayley's favorite toy is any of her rubber ducks and she just loves taking a bath!
Since we decided a few months back on the theme I've been doing a ton of research both online and by going to various stores. Right after Easter my mother and I found a ton of bargains on duck stuff. We bought little yellow duck candies that I plan on putting in little jars for each guest with a label that reads: "The party's over I'm officially one, Thanks for coming I hope you had fun, Here's some treats from me to you, see you next year when I turn two!" In addition I found the large rubber ducks with straw hats for the girls and with sailor hats for the boys at the store Marshalls for 7.99 which I intend on using as party favors (I had to call a number of stores in the area which they gladly held them for 24 hrs for me). My daughter's birthday is being held at the swan boats in Boston, MA so each child along with their parents will get to go for a ride on the swan boat and then we will then visit the bronze ducks sculpted after Robert McCloskey's story "Make Way for Ducklings." I intend on taking a picture of all the children on the bronze ducklings. We will then head across the street to the Boston Commons for a picnic. Recently Shaw's Supermarket had a sale on Barnum's large bags of animal crackers 10 for $10, since I have nine children attending my daughter's party I plan on giving these out as a party favors too and create a label for each bag that reads "Animal Quackers!" I also plan on bringing bread for the kids to toss to the ducks while on the swan boat ride. As a snack I plan on filling a bucket with chex mix and making a label that reads "Duck Feed." For invitations I took a picture of my daughter in the tub with her rubber duck and bought these really cool invitation kits from the Christmas Tree Shop for 2.99 (10 in a package) that has a vellum overlay to the invitation. I plan on scanning her pic onto the paper part of the invitation and then writing "Rubber Ducky you're the 1, who will make Kayley's 1st birthday lots of fun!" So waddle on over to the Swan boats at Boston Common on (date, time) Your presence would be just ducky! Give us a quack at (phone number) and let us know if you'll be able to attend!n the vellum part. For a cake I plan on using the recipe featured in a magazine that I get which I beleive the idea came from kraftfoods.com. It is a sheet cake with a rectangle cut out in the center that you fill with blue jello to look like water. You ice the cake with white frosdting obviously to look like a bath tub. You make faucets out of marshmellows and put mini rubber ducks on the jello. Hopefully this party will be a hit with the kids who range from 1-8! I am having a blast planning this party and think it's such a great summer birthday theme!
