To celebrate my daughter's 2nd Birthday we had a Rubber Ducky party. For invitations, I printed a bathtub with lots of bubbles on 4x4 white glossy stock and cut a slit in the tub and inserted
a rubber duck cutout so just the upper part of its body was showing (it looked like the duck was in the tub).
On the tub I printed, "Splish, Splash, you're invited to XXX's birthday bash". Then on the duck I printed the party info (you had to pull the duck out of the tub to get the info). All of this was mounted on blue cardstock. I decorated the house with tons of purple & yellow balloons & streamers to match the partyware I got from birthdayexpress.com (to cut down on cost, I alternated the printed napkins & plates with purple & yellow plain ones). For centerpieces on the outside tables I used yellow inflatable duck pool floaties and put a pot of purple petunias in the center. For the centerpiece on the buffet table, I filled a large shallow bowl with blue water and floated 5 or 6 ducks and a few flowers in the water. I had different sizes of rubber ducks on all of the tables & throughtout the house. I also made a tape of kids rubber ducky/bath songs & played it as guests arrived (Rubber Ducky you're the one, Splish Splash, Five LIttle Ducks, etc...) For food, we had a cookout & I used sand shovels as serving spoons. I served pretzels & chips in purple & yellow sand buckets. I made blue & yellow jello jigglers and cut out small yellow ducks from the yellow and small circles from the blue. Then I stood the ducks on the blue circles (yes, they stood up!)-- these were a big hit! I made blue Kool Aid for punch and floated rubber ducks in it. For dessert, I made cupcakes with light blue frosting and put 2" rubber ducks on top (available at cake decorating stores). I iced lt. blue "bubbles" all around the duck and on their heads. I also had a cake made to match the napkins. For games we didn't do very much since most of the kids were under 4. I filled a baby pool with blue & white balloon "bubbles" for the kids to play in. I had a duck ring toss game set up in another pool. The kids also blew bubbles, played in the sand box and kicked balls around the yard. I did go to the library and borrow 4 preschool duck books, but needless to say, no one wanted to come inside for a story! For favors, I filled small sand pails with a duck bath puppet, a small washcloth, a duck shaped soap and a rubber duck. I painted each kid's name on the bucket. These were a HUGE hit! The party was a real hit & everyone had a great time! I'm already trying to think of a fun theme to do next year!
