My daughter turned one year old this week, and I wanted to have a special party for her. I picked a rubber ducky theme. For invitations, I went to a local scrapbook shop and picked out paper
frames with pink and yellow designs in them. I then took a color copy of a cute picture put that on the back and then added a piece of pink card stock to the very back with the party
info written, birthday stickers and a magnet so that guests could put it on their refrigerator.
The decorations included a yellow tablecloth. I made a centerpeice from a planter that looked like a metal washtub, I then put blue confetti strings in the tub, added clear, plastic ornamental balls, surrounding a yellow ceramic duck (I found it at odd lots). I made a rubber duckie tree, simply by bringing out my pencil or bark christmas tree (which is tall and skinny), adding white lights, light blue ribbon and a variety of rubber ducks (purchased at the dollar store). I put that in the corner of the kitchen behind where my daughter would sit to do her cake. It looked really cute in the pictures. I also made a photo collage to display cute pictures taken over the last year. I served a hot lunch of barbecue meatballs, pasta salad, and sloppy joe sandwiches.I bought one yellow sand bucket for potato chips and a blue sand bucket to put a candy made from melting hugs kisses on pretzel twists and adding a m&m. I also had extra m&m's and colored gold fish in glass bowls. I made a blue punch and served it in a punch bowl with a mommy rubber duck and her 2 babies floating in it. The cake was a 2 layered yellow cake with home made white icing. I then added various sized blue circles, filled in ( to look like bubbles) on the sides with a large blue circle on top. The circle on top was trimmed with yellow stars and the edges of the cake were also trimmed in yellow and I added yellow stars periodically over the cake. The cake was then topped with a yellow duck candle ( I found it at Easter time) I was really excited about how the cake turned out because I had never tried that type of decorating before. I made an extra-large cupcake and decorated it about the same, also topped with a duck candle for Gracie to smash! For favors, I gave the children bubbles, a bag of m&m's and goldfish, and then they could pick a duck off the tree to take home. I did not have any games because I felt the kids that were there were really too small to get a lot out of them. However, we planned to be outside and play on our swingset, little tyke house, and other outdoor toys. It started out as a rainy day, but the sun came out just in time to shine on Gracie for her special day. We all had a great time and I got a lot of compliments from the party guests on my extra touches.
