For my daughter's 1st birthday I chose to have a rubber duckie theme. I was disappointed to find that there was no stores in my area that sold items with rubber duckies, but that didn't
slow me down.
I started by taking a photo of my daughter in a plastic tub with 40 rubber duckies (I found these at Walmart really reasonable). I then scanned this onto a card and on the front I wrote "Rubber Ducky you're the one, who's gonna make Grace's birthday so much fun". On the inside I wrote, "It would be just ducky if you would waddle on over to help Grace celebrate her 1st birthday. We'll have a quacking good time!" I mailed these to the guests with a mama duck and her ducklings swimming on the bottom of the envelopes. I found some pink and blue flannel fabric with rubber duckies and bubbles on it so I sewed little bags from it and used these for the loot bags. In the loot bags I put a face cloth, a little yellow ducky soap (from Avon), a rubber ducky (of course), bubble bath, little ducky erasers, and little Easter chocolates with ducks on them. I also downloaded some songs from the internet(like "Rubber Ducky" "Splish Splash" "5 Little Ducks") and made a keepsake c.d. for all the guests. On the cover I scanned a photo of Grace in the tub, and wrote a little poem thanking everyone for sharing her day. For the mom's I gave them some shower gel with a little tag saying thank you. I rented a cake pan from a cake shop that was shaped like a 3D rubber duck and I had little duck candles swimming around the cake "duck". I made some cupcakes and put a little rubber duck in the middle and piped white icing on it to look like bubbles in a tub (it also used up some of the 40 ducks I had). I also made little duck hats for the kids from a strip of yellow bristol board, a yellow circle (for the duck's head) an orange circle folded in 1/2 for the duck's beak and 2 googily eyes. On the walkway and steps leading up to the front door I had little ducky feet leading the way which I cut out of orange construction paper. I also had made a poster of the photo of Grace in the tub with her ducks (I scanned it using my computer) that said "Come on in the water's great ~ Happy 1st Birthday Grace" and I taped this to the front door. We played "Pass the ducky" (like musical chairs where the children sat in a circle and pass a stuffed duck while the music played, when the music stopped whoever was holding the duck was out. We played until one person was left. We also played "Duck, Duck, Goose" and "Put the duck in the tub" I printed off a poster of a bathtub full of bubbles from the computer and had little ducks printed on paper. The children were blindfolded and had to put the ducky in the tub. It was hilarious watching the kids put their duck on and then jump up and down cheering (everyone got a prize for these last 2 games). For prizes I gave items like duck puppets, yellow skipping ropes, yellow sugarless gum, and yellow sidewalk chalk (everything I bought at a local dollar store). The kids then made their own pizzas with soft tortillas and had a blast being chefs. Gracie loved her cake and I took a great photo of her with icing all over her face which I scanned onto another card and sent out for thank you cards. Everyone had so much fun and all the kids quacked their way out the door. Thanks to all the ideas I got from this website, it certainly helped make the party a big hit.
