I did a safari themed party for my two sons ages 6 and 7. This party took alot of planning I started in April and the party was in September. The invitations were suitcases.
I bought brownpaper resembling leather and folded the paper in half. I created what would be a suitcase. I used watercolor pencils to create the effect of depth in the suitcase and markers to
draw the stiching. I bought african safari stamps and downloaded a picture of actual african postage stamps and put these on the suitcase.Inside the suitcase, along the sides I added
animals pictures and a camera and travelers check pictures and created a small pocket with fabric like the ones in suitcases. In the pocket I included a passport with the infomation of
our safari expedition and also asked that they would bring them completed with picture and information. These were a BIG HIT!
I had people call me and say they were incredible. I made my own brown table linens and also bought fabric with safari animals and placed a 45 x 45 table cloth in the center for contrast( I bought the fabric at Walmart) I bought salt shakers for each table from BIG LOTS and they had palm trees on them. I also bought plain white ceramic napkin holders and did the napkin applique on them with animal print tissue paper. I bought animal print plastic bowls for chips and salsa. My centerpieces were Canoes made of sticks with a palm like arrangement of leaves and a stuffed animal tiger, or lion, or leopard. I bought animal print balloons and tied three to each centerpiece. To decorate the hall, I bought sheer animal print fabric and drapped in across the beams at the hall ( it was an outdoor hall)And made our own palm trees for each beam out of felt and added a monkey to each They were 2 cute we made a bamboo canopy 4 the cake Mc Calls ptrn 4074.I also draped it with fabric and monkeys. I painted big animals on wood, giraffe, elephant, lion, and jeep for pictures, and made a wood sign that said wild animal games, survivor, and safari cafe. I had a airbrushed banner that said happy birthday and was surrounded by animals at the entrance. I also created a big balloon arch with safari printed balloons and used streamers to create a vine effect as people walked in. We rented balloon jumps with a palm tree and monkey and an obstacle course Jr. Survivor. We made animal print sacs for races and also made a bean bag toss and ring toss with animals, out of wood. I had huge piņatas made, a giraffe that was about 8 feet tall and the lion was about 8 feet tall. They looked like statues. The talk of the party! We were dress for the theme with safari outfits and hats. And last, the cake, also made by me, was a three tier cake with safari animals on them, decorations came from the tops of cups bought at the zoo. This was by far the best party we have had, we still have people telling us what a wonderful party that was. The hard work was well worth it. There are many things I didn't include, I didn't want to make this so long.
