Elephant Party
Our son is crazy about elephants and for his 5th birthday. He informed us he wanted an elephant party. Now we had to get creative, because it is hard to find elephant stuff (he wanted JUST ELEPHANTS!). Here is what we did. The invitations were done on my Microsoft home publishing, which happened to have birthday elephant invitation and thank yous which we used. We had elephant gray table covers and blue and silver balloons (approved by our son as elephant colors. For games we had an elephant relay, were two teams race between a start line and a big bowl full of peanuts. The players run to the bowl grab a handful of peanuts and run to the start line were an empty bowl is waiting. The team to get all the peanuts to the start line first wins. We also played Pin the Peanut in the elephants mouth or trunk. The kids like having two targets and it was fun to see who was the closest. Pass the present was played. It is a game were boxes are nested inside each other and wrapped in wrapping paper. The smallest box contains enough prizes for everyone. Music is played and the present passed when the music stops the person with the present opens a layer. The last person shares the prizes with the group. Since his birthday was in the summer, we had an elephant sprinkler, which was a hit. We also broke water balloons. The biggest hit of all was the wading pool filled with bubble solution. It had an elephant kid float floating in the center of it. We used dish soap and water for the bubbles and used infant baby hanger (the squared kind) to make giant bubbles. The goodie bags had blue homemade playdough, elephant cookie cutters, elephant stickers, and small elephant figures. The cake had a photo from a trip we took to Arkansas from an elephant sanctuary. We had nine children and ten adults. I received many comments from the adults about how much elephant stuff I found. It took searching around, but my son and his friends had a great time that the smiles and laughter at the party made all the work worth it. Thanks for letting me share. I hope that this will encourage other people to create party themes when their kids like something that is different or not readily available. Happy Partying!!!!!
