This summer we had our son's 3rd birthday party at his grandparent's home in TN. Go Diego Go was our theme. I began to set the stage with invitations that my son and I made with Diego and
friends stickers and asked our friends to Swing on over to a Go Diego and David Safari Party"! They weren't the fanciest invites but he had so much fun helping me that it was worth the
sacrifice. To begin the party and make sure everyone had something to do while we waited for all guests to arrive I set up a table covered with safari-shaped foam hats visors and Go Diego Go
foam stickers. Everyone made a hat to wear while they went animal rescuing. My father hung tire swings in the backyard and we called those "jungle vines". I ordered inflatable
animals from OTC and used 2 monkeys (the Bobo brothers) and attached 1 monkey and a vine of silk leaves to each rope. The kids loved swinging through the jungle! The remaining inflatable
animals (elephant 2 tigers 2 zebras giraffe and lion) were used to play another game- Safari Animal Find. I hid the animals throughout the backyard and gave each child a printed list of what
to search for along with a crayon. The kids and mommy's searched the yard for each animal and checked them off as they were found. I even hid our Baby Jaguar toy (it is about 7 inches long
and came with the rescue pack) and that was the super bonus animal to find. Most kids did it several times! Of course Diego couldn't have a safari party without his field house. I let the
grass grow in the very back of the yard. The day before the party I lowered the lawnmower to the lowest setting and cut an obstacle course. With the grass a little taller than usual and the
trail cut low-- the path was easy to see. Each child ran the course about 20 times! Here is how we set it up: We used a wooden beam for a "ravine bridge" I cut a side lane off of
the course where kids stopped to putt a ball then they ran to Diego's field house (a plastic baby house that has a circle you can crawl through and a slide on the other end I think that
Today's Child is the maker) next they jumped foot to foot through hula hoops on the ground next they made a turn and had to zigzag around three large potted plants and finally dash to the
end. The shape we cut in the grass was a big "M". I found 'winner' stickers at Dollar Tree and used those as a prize for completeing the course. Just for dun we placed a sign on the
fence next to the trampoline that said "Baby Jaguar's Jump-a-roo". I used tons of blue orange and yellow streamers; along with colorful tablecloths and balloons. We have many
Diego toys and I set those on the tables as centerpieces. For lunch we served jungle dogs honeybear baked beans chips slaw and tropical trail mix (Costco's exotic fruit and nut mix). I served
the kids tropical fruit punch juice boxes. The finale was a Diego cake. I bought the cake at Costco and requested a cake that had balloons and asked the decorator to delete the other
decorations on it. (Costco cannot add anything to their cake designs but you can delete items from a cake design). At Michael's I bought a wax Diego figure carrying a birthday present and
some Wilton animals. I placed Diego in the middle of the cake and the animals between the balloons. It looked adorable and the cake was big enough to feed everyone.
For the party favors I used safari animal hand puppets and filled each one with animal stickers an inflatable ball (with inflatable animal inside) and some plastic safari animals. I tied each puppet's opening end with curling ribbon and hung them from a climbing rose arbor. They looked adorable swinging in their own jungle. The party was a hit and not too expensive. "
