For my son's 7th birthday we decided to have a Scavenger Hunt/Sleep Over
birthday party with sort of a pirate theme. He invited 7 boys to his party. I made invitations using stamps and paper and made the card look like a sleeping bag then you pulled the little boy out to read the information. All the boys arrived at 7:00pm Friday night and pizza arrived 15 minutes later. While they were all eating outside on the deck I explained the rules of the scavenger hunt. There will be two teams, the red team and the blue team, I gave each kid a red or blue bandana to wear (like a pirate) on their head. Then I gave each team a bag that contained clue #1 in an envelope and a roll of tape. When I said go they were to open their first clue and put 4 pieces of paper together (like a puzzle) to form their first clue. Each clue was a close-up picture of something in the yard. For example, a frisbee in the grass, the sandbox, the welcome mat, the swing. I printed each pic out on the computer then cut them into four even pieces and put them in envelopes. One clue for each envelope. Before cutting the pics I wrote each clue down on a piece of paper according to which team. This was so I could place them in the right location (meaning if clue one was a frisbee then clue # 2 would be under the frisbee, they would put that clue together to find clue #3 and run to that one) and have a reference for later in case I need it. I used pictures instead of riddles because the boys were ages 5-8 and some couldn't read yet. I made them close up pics to make it a little more fun and challenging. The tape was for taping the 4 pieces together in case they needed to but they mostly just did it on the ground. Each team had to find 10 clues and the last clue lead them to their treasure (like pirates would ). The treasure was their goodie bags which was filled with bubble gum coins, a fake mustache, funny glasses, a whoopie cushion, trick gum and a coupon for "a medium popcorn, box of candy and a small drink" while watching Pirates of the Caribean in the playroom. These were all in individual bags with their names on them and put in an old military box which was hidden behind the shed. Once they all found it, they got to open it together. We let them get some energy out for a while then went in to open presents and have cake. After cake was over I let them choose a box of candy each and made them "movie theater popcorn" which I put in actual movie theater popcorn cups. They all put their pjs on and got comfy in front of the tv waiting for the movie to start. When everyone was redy I brought them their popcorn and water bottle and let the movie begin. They all had a great time!!! I even had one boy say "Ms. Lisa, you're the best". Ha Ha
