For my daughter's 9th birthday i made a pirate treasure hunt for her and 8 friends at night. The first clue was hidden under the tablecloth they were eating their pizza on. It was a big mural
with pictures of pirate things and a hidden code they needed to solve. Other clues took them around the house and then outside to the neighbor's house ( i lit the way with a path of candles
in jars). Some clues were written in backwards cursive which they needed a mirror to read. I even hid some clues in the bottom of jars filled with "worms" (spaghetti in oil),
"eyeballs" (hard boiled eggs) and "brains" (cauliflower). The final clue led them down into our cellar which I had decorated like a pirate's den - vines, candles, spider
webs (cotton), a jail (pvc pipes spraypainted black), jolly roger flag etc. The kids had to enter the cellar with flashlights only and find a secret passage with the treasure. We made the
passage by taking a closet door off its hinges then covering the wall and opening with black paper. The kids had to feel their way along the wall to find the passage! The treasure was inside
the secret room and contained their goodie bags as well as a large mechanical spider! After the hunt they watched Pirates Of the Carribean and munched out!
