My friend had an awesome party recently for her birthday. She didn't tell us what we would be doing so it was all a suprise. We arrived at a park right next to the city and were divided
into three
teams: pink, blue and green. Each person had to wear a bandana with their team colours on it. Then, each team was given a pack with a map of the city, ten dollars, a compass, a set of instructions and a few other things (such as whistles and toilet paper). The instructions contained a series of tasks we had to complete. Each team had different instructions. Some examples of the tasks are: "Find out when the city hall was built" (we asked at the information desk, but there was also a plaque outside), "Wrap a member of your team in toilet paper outside the information and take a picture" (this was the central part of the city) "Catch a ferry from ___ to ___ and show us the ticket " (___ and ___ were two ferry stops within the city) "Find out the year in which the ___ statue was built" (This statue was a focal point of the city, and the year built was written on the plaque beneath it) "Buy a postcard from ___" (___ was a trinket shop in the city) or "Conduct an aerobics class in the ___ park" (___ was a small park within the city) At the bottom of each set of instructions there was a cryptic clue which instructed us to go to a certain shop and say a word to the shop asssistant. He had previously been informed of this, and when we said the word, he handed us a second set of instuctions, identical to one from one of the other teams. At the bottom of each second set of instructions, we were instructed to go to the gates of a large park. Here, my friend's parents handed us the third set of instuctions, thus ensuring that we all carried out the same tasks in the end. The last tasks on the third set of instuctions told us to walk across a certain bridge blowing our whistles, and when we reached the end of this bridge, my friends parents were waiting for us. The first team to complete all of their tasks (with proof!) won. When all the teams had arrived, we all ate fish and chips for dinner in the park. All the tasks were in a logical order, for example, a task instucting a team to go to a certain side of the city was not placed directly before a task instucting us to go to the other side. My friends parents had also staioned themsleves at various points in the city to ensure that we did not cheat. Although I think this party would take some organising, it was a lot of fun, is suitable for both adults and teenangers (not young children), and can be changed to suit various locations.
