We had a treasure hunt birthday party for a boy turning 8. Each guest was greeted with a treasure map of either our front yard or back yard with 'X marks the spot" and that was where their goodie bags were.  Each guests X was in a different spot.  Then they were split up into about 4 different teams for a scavanger hunt.  There were about 10 items on the scavenger hunt list. Each item was worth 1 point. Next to each item was a bonus item that was worth 2 points.  If any paper clip was worth 1 point a colored paper clip was worth 2 pts., a Post-it note was worth 1 pt. but a pink Post-it was worth 2 pts.  The teams' bags were counted by the order the appeared at the door.  The first team with the most points were the ones who were allowed to get their pizza first.  After the scavenger hunt they were then handed 2 riddles they had to solve. The riddles were about a spot in our yard and what they were to find there and it was always enough for the whole group. It was their party favor items.  For this part they needed their favor bags that they found in the beginning of party. The kids had a lot of fun.  There was always something going on.  As they were out solving the riddles is when their scavenger hunt items were being checked.  Parent helpers were needed for this one as they were a little young to go through the neighborhood alone.  The parents had fun too.
