For my son's 9th birthday, he wanted a science party. For invitations, we bought lime green blank notecards. I used neon orange paper and put _____'s Party is oozing with fun! I cut the orange paper to look like a glob, and pasted it to the front of the card. On the inside, I used test tube clipart, and gave all the important information. Lab location: address, Testing begins: time of party, Technical directiors and number: Parents name and phone number, and what to bring: Radio-active free towel, safety swim goggles, nuclear resistant swim wear.  We set up the rec room, to be our mad scientist lab. We covered boxes in foil and printed out wacky made up inventions to put on the front. BUBBLE GUM FLAVOR TESTOR, etc. We used pool noodles to make robots by gluing colored coins all over them. By putting some of these things together, you can make a cool robot.   When guest first arrived, we turned them into mad scientist. Our colors were black, lime green and bright orange. We used a poncho and cut out duct tape to write our lab initials on it. We used goggles that were covered with duct tape to protect" their eyes from the "atomic" spray.  We used lime green colored hair spray to color and spike the kids hair. We then turned them to face the mirror and removed the goggles to see our wild transformation.  As the parry started this is common this time of year for our area. It added to the mad scientist theme. We did all of experiments on the back patio and when the kids were finished the rain was over and it was sunny again.  We ordered classroom science kits from SteveSpangler.com. We made Squiddy's Tie-Dyed T-shirts with sharpie markers and alcohol. The kids really enjoyed that. We also made slime. These were a little time consuming but they were really fun the parents were involved with the kids and everyone had a great time.  We also had made buckets of tie dyed water balloons and we let the kids have a big water balloon fight.  We bought green pool dye at our local pool store and turned our pool into an "atomic waste". We lined the kids up around the pool (for photo op) and then counted and let them jump into the atomic waste at one time.   We used mini bundt pans and brownie mix to make mini volcanoes. I put a small scoop of ice cream in the middle and had bought sparkler candles to put on top of each volcanoe. The kids loved having their own volcanoe and sparkler.  I made a larger one for the parents. We also had a birthday cake it was bright orange and trimmed in lime green. We used test tubes and a small funnel decorated with green iciing coming out it and icing bubbles around the test tubes to look like green slime. We had trick sparkler candles on that. The kids ate the birthday cake at the end of the party- when they were hungry again after swimming.  Our menu was simple hot dogs chips coolers of soft drinks capri sun water bottles.  Instead of a pinanta we made a large test tube out of plastic. We rolled the plastic up and taped it together. We cut several holes in it. We cut cardboard and taped it to the bottom. We used black plastic to cover the bottom of the tube so you couldn't see what you were digging in.We used duct table to create our Lab initials again on it.  We put shredded paper and candy and toys at the bottom of the tube. The kids had to wear our mad scientist hat that we had made. We put some of those mini round push lights on the front it. We made a meter for the front of it. We also used velcro straps to attach it the kids head. They had to wear that along with our poncho and goggles from the beginning and thick orange cleaning gloves. We spun the kids around and gave them a brown lunch sack and timed them. Whatever they could grab in the set time is what they got to put in their bag.   Their sacks also included mini notebooks- science journals poppersballoon rockets the stick that you put that gooey stuff on and blow into it and makes those funny little bubbles sorry I can't think of the name most of this stuff found in the party section at Wal-Mart. Since his birthday is around a holiday we had fireworks out so I included a small bag of those little poppers that pop when you throw them on the ground. I told all parents ahead of time about those. They also got to take the things they made home with them. We also watched Disney's Flubber. Most of the kids had not seen this so they were glued to the TV. We showed this at the end and helped calm the kids back down before they left to go home.   We had a lot of fun and parents were still talking about it the next day.   This party was a lot of fun. A little time consuming but well worth it. You can use a lot of imagination and create a really unique party."
