Mad Scientist Party- For my son's eighth birthday, we had a mad scientist party. I made the invitations out of cardstock and a gel pack with purple hair gel. I cut the shape of a flat bottomed beaker from a green piece of paper, attached the gel pack behind it and attached that to the front of the card. On the inside it had the picture of Einsein with his tongue sticking out. It read: You don't have to be Einstein to figure it out, Fun is what science is all about, Please come help us celebrate, Your friend Chase is turning eight! Details instructed kids to wear a white lab coat (Dad's old white shirt) to protect their clothes. I made bunsen bow ties out of black foam sheets and hot glued a paper clip on back. When guests arrived in their lab coats, I gave them a bow tie and a pocket protector! For entertainment, I had a mad scientist do a show for the kids and parents. This particular scientist does really "cool" shows using liquid nitrogen. He froze marshmallows and when they ate them, it looked like they were breathing fire! He froze a banana and hammered nails into a board with it. We also made ice cream using liquid nitrogen! For party favors, I made cookies and frosted them to look like the diagram of a cell. The bag topper read: Thanks for coming to "cell"ebrate Chase's birthday! The cake was a 3D mad scientist (made from the Wilton stand up teddy bear pan). I also had ice cream cones containing smarties and nerds as the goodie bag. For thank you notes, I printed Einstein's picture on the front. It read: My theory of a relatively good time is having you at Chase's birthday party! Kids loved it, adults loved it and most importantly, my son loved it. It is the only party I have had so far where we all learned something while celebrating!
