For our son's 7th Birthday we had a Science party. We decorated with his favorite colors (red and black) in streamers, balloons, table cloths and party ware. We put up a Jimmy Neutron H.B.
Banner that was in 3-D and gave everyone a pair of 3-D glasses to view it. I printed the party invitations on our computer with a few comical science clip art images and printed out
extra copies of the clip art to cut out and glue onto their party bags. The bags were black and the clipart really contrasted well on them. I also printed out banners for the different
science stations we set up in our garage. For an ice breaker activity I had three stations set up to keep them busy. First was the gum drop and toothpick building area where they tried to
build things with the picks and drops by sticking the picks into the drops and going from there. Second we had about 200 dixie cups for them to stack and create. Thirdly, we had a 110 piece
set of the magnastix/balls, they work together to build all kinds of shapes and objects. When everyone arrived we gathered at the main "lab" table and I "performed" many
amazing experiments. I did the egg into the small neck bottle trick. I struck three matches, placed them into the small necked bottle and just as the flames went out I placed the egg over the
hole. I had the guests give it a shot to get the egg into the bottle before I tried it. The egg gets sucked in and if you pour hot water over the glass bottle the egg oozzes right out again.
They all loved this! We put a circle of tooth picks in a bowl of water and dropped a cube of sugar in the middle and the toothpick moved towards the center. In another bowl just like that we
put a drop of soap in the middle and the toothpicks moved away from the center. That got their attention! I made a rocking candle out of a candle burning at both ends with a nail through the
center and the nail resting on two identical glasses. Several tricks with water, oil, food coloring and salt. One that looked just like a lava lamp..."Cool"! After that round of
experiments they ran off to play in the yard while we got lunch ready. Just after lunch we continued with the film container popper. Film canister, baking soda wrapped in tissue
paper, pour vinegar into container add tissue and soda ,quickly close on lid and POP! I also had a volcano kit I had made ahead of time with the concrete mound, painted it white on top for
snow and green below, added Polly Pocket on a fruit roll up (beach towel) and a plastic palm tree. We gathered around the table and watched it erupt! Most of the kids on one side of the table
wore a little lava home!! They loved it. We made slime...green of course. And finally, everyone was given a plastic water bottle with a tablespoon of baking soda inside and a wine cork. We
went outside and I squatted in the middle of them and one at a time they brought me their bottle and I added vinegar and placed the cork back on and with a little shake the "bottle
rocket" blew the cork off with a loud puff!! This was great! Presents and cake and more out door play rounded out the fun. In their party bags we put pop rock candy, 3D glasses,
confetti popper, ooze candy pieces, slime, notepad and mechanical pencil and a pack of Kool-aid Mad Scientwists drink powder. It was a great party. In addition to 7 year olds we also had a
few 4 year olds and an 8 year old, they were all amazed. A party theme with endless possiblities!!
