For my son Evan's 10th birthday, we had a science party. Invitations were written in white crayon and the guest had to sketch over them with magic marker to make the hidden message appear.  Once all the guests arrived on the party day, we played "build-a-tower" first. Each team of two was given a baggie with 100 marshmallows and 50 toothpicks.  The group that built the tallest freestanding structure was the winner.  Each entry was measured and all received a certificate listing how high their structure was. Next we played "Pin the bowtie on Bill Nye the Science Guy" (like pin the tail on the donkey but using a blow-up of Bill Nye's head.) All guests got a science notebook (journal) and a pen for a prize. We did a science top ten trivia game where each guest was tested on their science knowledge using the notebooks and pens to write answers in.  Finally, we teamed up for the egg drop which was held in the garage for obvious reasons. Each pair of kids got an egg, 3 feet of masking tape, 12 straws and a pair of scissors.  They were allowed to wrap the egg in any way to make sure it didn't break when dropped. We had many interesting designs! We started dropping them at knee level, advancing to waist high, overhead and then to the ceiling. There was a lot of excitement during this game. Finally, the kids came back inside where we had an "invent your own pizza, pop and sundae bar" and they put together their own dinners.  For dessert, my husband made an exploding volcano cake that spewed red Jell-O down the sides when we added the lemon juice to the baking soda mixture.  Probably the biggest hit were the relighting candles that had the kids in stitches. (Go figure). Anyway, a great memorable party for 16 10 year olds!
