For our son's 10th birthday we had a science party. We hired a local science company to come and demonstrate a few science projects. The "scientist" show the boy's what and how a
vortex works, all about gravity and pressure and they made silly putty. The highlight of the event was the rocket. The boys all participated in the preparation of the rocket launch and the
birthday boy was allowed to set it off. I made a cake that looked like a beeker and used gummy worms to simulate the fumes that come out the top. I frosted a neon green and white. We played a
game called puzzle bags. The object is to figure out the puzzle (items with a theme) that are placed in a bag. Like Harry Potter - glasses, a bottle, a wand, and a made up book of spells. The
boys loved this game. We broke out into 3 teams. We also played "what do these ingredients make". Another mystery game but related to science. We made music with water in the
glasses. The favors were white lab coats - bought at second hand stores, a do-it-yourself science activity book, a small gift certificate to the Discovery store and the silly putty they made
with the "scientist".
