Our youngest son wanted a Scooby Doo party for his 6th birthday.
The first thing I did was have my husband call a good friend who has an exact replica of the Mystery Machine and a great dane, of course, named Scooby. He was able to make it, so on to the planning. INVITATIONS: I started with a file folder. I printed out a large sticker label w/ JADEN XXXXXX Detective Agency on it. Then on the folder I wrote top secret" and "confidential" on it to look like they were stamped on. Inside I stapled the following pages the birthday phantom is at it again please come and help your friend. The mystery begins at 3 pm on Saturday March 15th. Join us at the Jaden XXXXX Detective Agency address for some mystery solving fun. But jinkies please RSVP by... Rope Ru Ran Rome! At the top of this page I printed out the directions for getting the secret code and wrote in crayon below. (either use food coloring in water and wipe over the white crayon w/ a qtip or use a marker over the white crayon). The last page was directions to our house. As everyone arrived I had them place the presents in a wash basket. They didn't notice that I had that basket inside another one so that when the "phantom" takes the presents there will be an empty basket there w/ the first clue. The children went into the kitchen to do a scooby picture frame craft that I found at the local party store. This was to distract them from the phantom taking the presents. After the craft I said "let's do something different how about we open the presents first the kids were excited ran into the living room and they were gone! Left behind was the first note: I love taking presents from children If you want them back you must follow my clues...first find the string that is the color blue. I hung blue yarn over the basement door from the other side so when they found that they knew they needed to go downstairs. That lead them to the first game: a web maze. We set up a web maze by weaving very long black yarn strings weaved all around the room. This took about an hour to do. Attached to the end of each string was a white balloon w/ ghost faces drawn on. Each child took an end of the string an untangled their webs. Attached to one balloon was the next clue: By untangling the web you found my clue on a ghost. Now tie them around your ankle and see who can stomp the most. Next game was stomp the balloons. Inside each balloon was a piece of the next clue. After all balloons were popped they put the clue pieces together (I had them numbered on the back) and it said: Yikes to find the presents you must search high and low sit on the carpet where the next game is ready to go. When the game is over the last one in the chair will look under to see what is there. We played Scooby where's your bone. One child sits on the chair and there is a bone under the chair. One of the children sitting on the floor quietly takes the bone and the person in the chair has to guess who took it. After everyone had a turn under the chair was the next clue: Scooby's hungry from all these games the next clue will be found where you see his name. Everyone ran over to the Pin the sandwich on Scooby game. They took turns getting the sandwich closest to Scooby's mouth just like pin the tale on the donkey. Next clue was hanging on the wall: So you think you are getting close but your not Let's see how good you are with the biscuits you drop. We went on to play the Scooby Snack Drop. I used a jar on the floor and scooby snack dog biscuits and the children took turns dropping 3 biscuits in the jar by standing over it and dropping them from their chin. Under the jar was the next clue: Zoinks I unleashed the mummies and they are all around. Wrap up your team mates in hopes you are not found. I broke them into 2 teams and the raced to wrap up their mummies. In the meantime the Mystery Machine and Scooby arrived. I arranged to have the "big kids" (ages 10 to 13) that are in our group of families that we hang out with come and be the phantoms to surprise our son. So as the children finished the mummy game the big kids got in the back of the Mystery Machine w/ the presents. The children got the final clue: Well the mummies didn't stop you but they gave me time to get away So now its all on you talk it over think about what I might use to drive away. They all ran up to the garage but nothing was there. So I opened the garage door and there was the Mystery Machine and Scooby. They all ran to the van and were all excited opened the back door and the big kids yelled hey we would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids! We took pictures of the birthday boy and each guest with Scooby for the frames they make in the beginning and a group picture too. We served pizza and snacks keeping it simple. The cake was a cheeseburger that I made. I bought already made Scooby goodie bags. The children had a blast! "
