My son had a hard time deciding what to do for his 6th birthday. After an awesome pirate party last year I wasn't sure I was up to surpassing that for fun and entertainment. However, when my son and husband came home from the store with Scooby-Doo invitations and a pinata I knew I had to try.  I used purchased Scooby-Doo invitations as time was of the essence in getting them out. I then went to the many on-line sites searching for party ideas using a lot of information from this site (Thank You to everyone that partied before me)! The party was scheduled from 2:00 to 4:30pm which actually turned out to be just right. Before the party started we showed my son where to take each of the presents when the guests arrived.  He put them into a big bin and then the guests found their Scooby-Doo dog tags (made just like what Scooby wears from yellow and blue fun foam. I punched a hole in the top of the tag and inserted a round key chain clasp. Then I took about 11 inches of grosgrain ribbon and put velcro on each end.  On the back was the name of each guest followed by '-Doo') and put on a Scooby-Doo hat (this could be a craft however they were done before the kids arrived ... this is from dltk-kids site). with hats and tags on the kids were really cute. Then, while waiting for all the guests to arrive they decorated cookies which were baked in the shape of a dog bone.  I used white frosting and had found Scooby-Doo cake/cookie decorations in the shape of a dog bone, the mystery mobile, etc. in orange, blue, purple and green.  After the cookie decorating we went into the living room and talked about what we were going to do. At that time we noticed that the presents were missing (they had been hidden in the dog house in the back yard) and found an envelope labeled 'A Clue' which contanined a Mad Lib type of puzzle telling the kids to find 20 dog paw clues. Once all the dog paw clues were found the kids lined them up in order from 1 - 20 and took turns reading the clue.  This clue led them to the basement where a yarn maze was set up.  The kids rolled up their yarn weaving through the room (about 45 feet with a balloon tied to the end) until they caputred their 'ghost' (a balloon draped with crepe paper). The balloons were tied to their ankles and we went to the garage to stomp the ghosts.  As each balloon was popped a clue from inside it was found.  We gathered all the clues arranged them in order and read it.  This one led to a Scooby-doo package that when opened had the Scooby-Doo pinata.  The guests took turns hitting the pinata until it broke. The gift/pinata bags were paper bags which I used a stamp-it-up wheel to stamp dog prints on each of the long edges and then stamped 'Scooby Snacks' onto each. Inside of the pinata there were 10 puzzle pieces (on fun foam).  Once the puzzle was put together it told where the presents were hidden and that cake, ice cream, and swamp punch was to follow.  The cake was made in the shape of a dog bone (one rectangle with four cupcakes) and had Scooby Cake decorations.  Swamp punch was 7-up, dry ice, and green hand ice cubes (green kool-aid frozen in a rinsed laytex glove).  After cake and ice crea the gifts were opened.  I took a picture of each guest with their present and the birthday boy.  This not only works well to include with the thank you cards it helps in the actual writing of them because you don't have a chance to forget who gave what gift.  With about 20 minutes left the kids could play with the gifts and watch the Scooby cartoons playing on the t.v.  It was the general opinion that this was as much fun or more than the pirate party.
