This is a scrapbook party honoring the arrival of an adopted child. Letters are sent to all guests emphasizing the "Scrapbook Shower" honoring the adopted child.
I also add a line about the actual birth date and the arrival date. Each guest is sent one sheet of acid-free scrapbook paper which they are instructed to write a letter to the newly adopted child. (This is especially exciting for children adopted internationally.) If this is not a family party, but a "friends and co-workers" party, have the guests write their best pieces of advice for the new mommy. Participants are asked to donate $10 to the coordinator (to cover the supplies), but NOT to buy a gift because they will make the gift at the shower! When guests arrive, provide each one with scrapbook pages and endless supplies (markers, stickers, colored paper, etc.) so they can make borders on the pages (Mommy can add pictures and journalizing later.) During the Scrapbook Shower, have games like "New Baby Bingo" with scrapbook supplies as prizes (the winner of the game receives a small gift, like stickers, and the Mommy gets the same gift, too.) Make sure you provide cake and ice cream, too! At the conclusion of the party, the new Mommy has the baby's first album almost complete! If you have a lot of participants, you could also afford to Mommy and child the album; there's a beautiful leather one offered by Creative Memories for a boy or girl. This party is a wonderful way to create a lasting memory - especially when the adopted parents have waited so long for their child to arrive!
