70's retro party for 11-year-old girl. We had a blast with this party.  The invitation told everyone to dress in a 70's costume and bring a picture of their mom from the 1970's. We first did a Brady Bunch quiz to break the ice.(tons of Brady info on the Internet) One girl got every question right! We ordered a life-size talking cardboard cut-out of Austin Powers (over the Internet) that was standing in our foyer.  We took Polaroid's of each girl with Austin Powers to take home.  (Big hit!)  We then did a relay race with old 70's disco clothes (we bought the stuff at a Target after-Halloween sale.)  Divide the kids into 2 groups, each child has to put on the disco clothes, wig, chain necklaces, etc. (over their clothes), run around a cone, and come back.  The next child goes, and so on, until one relay team wins. The winning relay got mood rings!!!  We then did candle making with the girl.  We bought white round candles.  We then cut up sheets of wax that was rolled up, and stuck the wax on the candles.  Each candle was unique and the girls loved it. Of course, we had pizza and a cool 70's cake afterwards. We then played a game where we put all of the moms' pictures from the 70's on a board. The girls had to guess each girl's mom from the 1970's pictures. This was a hard but fun game as you can imagine, since the moms looked SO DIFFERENT now than they did in the 1970's.  Finally, we had the disco ball and streamers hanging from the ceiling. We played disco music and had a dance contest and also played freeze dance.  The party lasted from 5PM to 9 PM on a Friday night and the pre-teen girls LOVED IT!!  Every girl but one came dressed up too! The girls went home with their Polaroid's of themselves with Austin Powers, a candle they made, mood rings, and a treat bag filled with Smiley face stuff, disco ball earrings, and other 70's stuff I found on the web. It was the best party my daughter ever had!!!
