High School Musical Sleepover Party        For my daughter's 9th birthday we hosted a High School Musical Sleepover Party. I used the downloadables from the Disney Channel High School Musical website to make my own invitations. The invitation on the website was just an e-mail invitation that looked like a movie ticket.  I printed this and used it as the inside of my invitation.  For the front of the invitation I used a picture of the cast I found on the website.  I edited these all onto a printable invitation using an editing program. I used envelopes from an office supply store. We asked all the guests to wear red, the school color of East High School. The girls all wore red and it made a nice group shot.  The color scheme for the party was also East High colors, red and white.  I used a plain red tablecloth, napkins, cups and plastic utensils. I purchased an Easter basket shaped like a basketball and used it as a holder for the napkins and utensils.   I placed red cheerleader pompoms and a red megaphone on the table around the basketball napkin holder to create a decorative tablescape.  If you were so inclined you could use basketball themed napkins, etc. since there is a basketball theme throughout the movie.  My daughter preferred the red items.  We hung red and white balloon bouquets and streamers all over the party area.  We got poster board and made several signs with things like Go Wildcats and Go East High on them.  These we put all around the party area. The most impressive decoration was a huge banner.  It was a 4-foot by 3-foot red sign with white letters made from a red plastic tablecloth. It said Go Wildcats.  I used white paint, but it took several coats to show up on the plastic tablecloth.  I taped the sign to yarn at the top and stung is up between a coat closet door and my staircase. It was hanging pretty high above the ground.  It was the first thing the kids saw when they came in the front door.  When all the guests arrived I gathered them all under the sign and took their picture. It was a great shot of everyone and the Go Wildcats sign. I printed out a copy for everyone and put it in their goody bags. The goody bags were plain red bags.  I filled them with basketball shaped chocolate candies, small makeup kits, and assorted items that had no connection to the theme except they were red. I also made a High School Musical pillowcase for each girl to take home. I downloaded the poster from the website and printed it onto iron-on transfer paper.  Then I just ironed it on white pillowcases. I purchases red fabric pens and had the girls sign each other's pillowcases as a remembrance of the event.   As a craft for the party, we made fuzzy slippers. We covered plain flip flops with fun fur which I had cut to shape prior to the party. We held the fur to the flip flop with carpet tape, then glued the edges to stop the shedding. This craft made a great finished product but it took longer than I anticipated. The birthday cake was a red megaphone with white striping on it and a white 9.  I placed the cake on a large white cake board.  With icing I made lines on the cake board to represent sound coming out of the megaphone. I also put the words Happy Birthday Megan on the cake board as if they were words coming out of the megaphone. I got this idea from Family Fun, from their Cheerleading party. You could probably go the their website and see a picture of their megaphone cake to see what I am trying to describe. Of course we finished out the evening by watching the High School Musical DVD and eating popcorn.  I also had dress up outfits available for the girls to dress up and dance to the songs. They really seemed to enjoy that.  My daughter and her friends are really into the movie and they know the dance moves. They enjoyed being part of the show. The party was a great success and all my daughter's friends thought she was very lucky to have had a High School Musical party.
