My daughters 7th, Groovy Girls slumber party
Two months before the party invitations were hand made with rubber stamps and paper engineering so that when the guest pulled a tab the image of a groovy purple VW drove across the length of the card reviling the words, "You are invited to Ally's GROOVY birthday party!" The back side of the card gave the details printed in funky colored fonts. A theme kit was ordered from an online Birthday Express store. As the guest arrived we played on the porch with music. Each guest was given a square of glitter heart stickers to adorn their face. Once sticker-ed the guest photo was taken digitally with the birthday girl. The cake was made of brightly colored cupcakes arranged into the shape of a butterfly. After cake children sat on the floor to watch the opening of presents. Older sister wrote who gave what gift so that mom was free to print out the digital photos onto address labels for the party favor boxes. The girls then played some action party games. •Limbo (broom handle on porch) • Little Sally Walker (where the participants stand in a circle and sing the song as they dance around, stop and do a stunt) •Sticker tag (a paper is taped to players back, each player is given 10 stickers, boundaries are set, tag is on until all stickers are gone, player with least stickers on their paper wins) •Sitting on balloons to pop them (they had the most fun with this activity) During the games I hid their party favor boxes that were labeled with their own photo sticker. The hunt was on and everyone found great joy in finding other's boxes as well as their own. They played (and traded) with the favors for quite a while. Back inside before the sun set for sacks of diamond cookies. Girls took turns hammering to smash lifesavers candies that were in a bag wrapped with a towel. Once throughally crushed they rolled pre-made sugar cookie dough in the "diamonds" During baking time calmer activities pursued like: •drawing blindfolded •leading each other around blindfolded •blindfolded taste test (my personal favorite) •sticker crafts •paper folding hats •etc… With snack of diamond cookie and food colored milk, the TV was finally turned on to an older movie of the Olsen Twins, "It Takes Two" To my surprise the girls were still awake and ready after the movie. They played: •mummy wrap with cheap toilet paper •marker tattoo (legs and arms only) •Spa (two groups, one giving and one getting then alternating. Stations were hair/nails/lotion/makeup/shoulder rub/yoga) •more dancing •telling stories •Short pillow fight ended quickly with tears of tired little girls. Once the second movie was put on, they began to drop like flies. As the guest arrived we played on the porch with music. Each guest was given a square of glitter heart stickers to adorn their face.
