Sleepover Party 11yr

Honorable Mention

August 2006

Katelyn in Baldwin, New York, USA

DESCRIPTION: Since my birthday is in late September, it's about 2 weeks after school starts. But for my 11th birthday, I had it right before school started because my friends and I were entering middle school for the first time. My mother finally let me have a sleepover! INVITATIONS: My aunt helped me to create a lovely, eye-catching invitation. The invitation read "It is my honor to announce that you are invited to Katelyn's black and white spa sleepover, celebrating her 11th birthday. When? The first day of September, 2005 5:00 PM- 10:00 AM Where? The World Famous Black and White Spa (My Address) R.S.V.P. By the 25th day of August, 2005. ###-#### Bring your fuzziest slippers and your favorite shade of nail polish, Don't forget to wear either black or white!" Since my aunt loves scrapbooking, she had tons of little pop-up add-ons. For example, we included the number 11, make-up, slippers, popcorn (because of late-night movies), and even a tuxedo.  THEME: The theme was a black and white spa sleepover. But there was a catch: while my guests arrived in black and white, I had decided to wear a bright red and teal skirt outfit. DECORATIONS: To make sure I stood out, I had white and black streamers, black and white plate settings, everything black and white except me! ACTIVITIES: At my black and white spa sleepover, I decided to go a little farther than just pin the tail on the donkey and a plain piƱata. I had set up 5 stations: One for French manicures and pedicures, manicures and pedicures of any color, facials (face mask and massage, make-up, and hair. To make sure everyone got a chance to work at or go to every station that they wanted to, we switched off about every 10-15 minutes. I also had games planned such as classics like Truth or Dare and others introduced to me by friends, such as Piggly Wiggly, Midnight Murder, and Ooli-ooli gosh-gosh. I also created a game where the room id covered in balloons. Each balloon has a prize inside, such as chocolate coins to cheap rings to real coins and everything in between. Each person was blindfolded and had to pick up 3 balloons and pop them somehow. The players kept whatever was inside of the balloons. As the party went further into the night, I had popped in some DVD's into the player that I had rented. All were girl-school themed, such as "Clueless" and "Mean Girls". FOOD AND SNACKS: Since I am the type of person who loved making sweets, I decided to get my elbows dirty for my party. I served some delicious recipes of mine (yes, I created them) like strawberry cheesecakes. Strawberries topped with my delicious cheesecake topping and put in the freezer for about an hour. Some others were marshmallows dipped in chocolate with sprinkles on top and fruit-kebabs. The main meal was, of course, pizza. In stead of having birthday cake for dessert, we had a sundae competition. Everyone made ice cream sundaes with my wide choice of ice cream flavors and toppings, and we had a contest to see who could finish theirs faster. MUSIC: For my birthday party, I made a CD of 19 songs. This included old favorites such as "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls to new dance hits. I surprised my guests by making a copy of this CD for them to take home and keep. FAVORS: Other than my birthday CD and winnings from my balloon game, my favors included a small make-up application set, hand sanitizers and creams and of course, candy!
