Sleepover (7 to 9 years old)
We just had a sleepover last week for our two daughters age 7 and 9. They both got to invite their best friend in the neighborhood. I had gotten a big neon colored poster board for under $ 1 at Walmart and drew a funny looking cartoon boy on it. We blindfolded one girl at a time and put lipstick on their mouth. Then they had to try and kiss the drawing on its mouth. The girl closest to the mouth got a prize (jewelry from Family Dollar). The second game was an outdoor game. I had set two backpacks filled with grown-up PJs and flippflopps at the end of our street. We formed two teams. The girls had to run to the backpack, put the PJ and flippflopps on and run back to the starting line. After reaching the starting line they had to turn around run all the way back where the backpacks were and take the PJs off and run back. The fastest team got a prize from the Jewelry box. These two games were their favorites!! Next we made shampoo and body glitter. We purchased the kits from Hearthsong.com for under $ 10 (it is on clearance right now). They had a ton of fun making that. Then we made cookies. First we made the normal sugar cookie dough, divided it up into 5 even portions. Each portion got mixed with a different color food coloring (we used blue, red, yellow, green and pink). Then we made funny looking things out of the dough, like flowers, rainbows, a self portrait, bugs...and eventially we baked it just like the sugar cookie recipe said to. The girls really were creative and I think they spend almost 2 hours making the "eatable playdough cookies". There was a lot of giggeling going on when making the self portrait. After eating the cookies we made friendship bracelets. We found the instructions on the internet. We used red, yellow and blue yarn for them. We cut the strings about 24 inches long put knots into both ends. Then 2 girls (one on each side of the strings) starts twisting it until it gets very tide. Then you fold it together in the middle and then strings braid themselves together . The girls used also the hairbraiding machine for it. They made bracelts, necklaces, belts, rings with it. Another fun game was a scavenger hunt. We had questions like "What has 4 wheels and 4 doors". Then the girls ran to the car and found the next question "What is green all year round and has a shape like a triangle". Off they ran to the pinetree. There they found the note "The itsy bitsy spider went up the ..." So they ran to the waterspout. There was the next note "Where do you put your mail to get picked up". And in the mailbox they found the treasure: Mc Donald gift certificates for each kid. At Mc D. they bought what they wanted and afterwards they played at the playarea there. Back at home we put Mary Kate and Ashley DVDs in (Passport to Paris, When in Rome and Holiday in the sun). For another treat to keep I got each kid a fleecesleeping bag (it came in a clear backpack, also purchased tru Hearthsong.com for $ 6.99 on clearance used to be $24 and is still available by the way). In the outside pocket of the backpacks were travelsize toothbrush and toothpaste. Both girls stayed with as for 23 hrs and it felt like only 2 hrs. It was a lot of fun. They had stayed up til midnight and got up at 6am to play some more. We did rockpainting outside in the morning with Acryl paint after we had pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausages. A few days later the girls had written me handmade thank you notes and it was written so nicely that it made me cry. It was sooo worth it and I am already planning another sleepover. This time it is gonna be a "Glow in the dark party". With glow in the dark bugs and stars for the ceiling, black light, glow in the dark clip on earings (I saw them at Walmart in the party favor aile for under $ 2 today). Glow in the dark rings and necklaces from "Oriental trading company" and I want to make green cool-aid and green yello and I heard there is glow in the dark paint that I am gonna use to stamp stars with spanges on white t-shirts for PJs....And I am sure I find more glow in the dark stuff in the mall (Great Lakes Crossing Mall here has actually a whole store of glow in the dark stuff). Maybe glow in the dark cards to play with who knows. Excuse my English. I have only lived in this country for 6 years and I make a lot of spelling and Grammar mistakes. But I hope my ideas where helpful.
