Honorable Mention

February 2010

Sarah in Santa Rosa, CA, USA

For my 12th Birthday I decided to have Spa Slumber party. INVITATIONS: For the invitations I went to my local arts and crafts store and bought Pink polka-dotted paper. I cut it in half and decorated it with stickers of robes, nail polish, etc. Then I wrote down all the necessary information like; when, where, what to bring, etc. DECORATIONS: The colors I picked for the decorations where lavender and a creamy white. I bought lavender streamers, and cream colored streamers. The utensils were lavender, and I bought these cool off white, creamy colored square plates. Then I bought a ton of scented candles and fresh cut purple daisies and white roses. I also bought some really soft purple & white blankets and pillows, which I put in the middle of my living room for later that night. The room I was using for the spa room was blocked of from the rest of the house by sheets. On one of the sheets was a sign that said The Spa of Your Dreams" ACTIVITIES: When my quests came I had my mom take the presents and set them aside. Then I led them into the spa since there was 6 of us total we split up into 3 groups of 2. All together there was 3 stations. Station 1 was pedicures. One of my mom's friends ran this station she had us put our feet in a foot spa. Then after about 5-7 minutes she took them out and dried them. Then she let us pick from 2 different foot scrubs and with our lotion that we picked she gave us a foot scrub. After that we could pick which nail color we wanted and if we wanted any nail decoration on it like a flowerheart etc. Station 2 was manicures we had a collection of nail polish and artificial nails. Each girl got to pick which one she wanted and the adult applied the nails or painted them. Station 3 was facials; here we had deep pore cleansing scrub which we put on first. Then we picked which mask we wanted a cucumber peel-off mask or a mud mask. Each girl was given a head band to keep there hair back. Cucumbers were also put over our eyes. And during the stations if your nails dry before we rotate then you can sit down on the extra couch in the room that doesn't have a station and grab a Snapple or a snack. (there will be a bowl of chocolate covered strawberries and plain strawberries and a platter of all different kinds of Snapple) Then after everyone's gone through all the stations we'll head up stairs and change into our P.J.'s.PARTY SNACKS: Then downstairs our dining room table had pizza steak shrimp veggies fruits chips and finger foods. The drinks were all different kinds of soda and Snapple and flavored water. CAKE: For the cake bake mini cakes for every girl and have them decorate it with icing fondantsprinklesetc. GAMES: When we were done eating we opened presents then headed into the living room. Everyone will take a seat on the blankets and pillows in the middle of the room. On a table near the wall will be all different colored fabrics felt buttons ribbons and fiberfill. There will also be instructions to an art project called Monster Pals. Each girl will pick 3 buttons(2 for the eyes and 1 for a nose) 1 piece of fabric(any color) 1 piece of felt(that's a different color than the fabric) and a few pieces of ribbon. Then they will settle back down on the blankets and pillows. Everyone will agree on a movie and a parent will turn it on. ( A movie from on demand) Then during the movie each girl will receive a paper of instructions on how to make their monster pals. What you do is you fold the fabric in half and with a sharpie draw a monster shape. Then cut it out since the fabric was folded in half you should have two pieces. Place the pieces of ribbon at 1 end for hair and sew all the sides together except for half on one. Cut out a mouth from the felt and sew it onto one side. And add your eyes and nose. Then fill it with fiberfill and sew the last side. Now you have a monster pal! When the movie ends bring in sleeping bags for each girl and set them up the way they want. If you still aren't tired pop in another movie. PARTY SNACKS (CONTINUED): In the morning we had a buffet of all different kinds of breakfast foods like; pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, egg, setc. Then we all hung out until the parents came. FAVORS: For party favors we bought these really cute reusable tote bags form bath & body works. We filled them with lotionbath sponges bath ducks nail files hand sanitizer hand sanitizer holder perfume shower gel hand cream body butter slippers a robe a small candle lip glosses a towel with their name embroidered on it a pumicea nail buffer a compact mirror hair brush a 5-prong Massage tool and a roller ball massage tool.
