My daughter wanted her first sleepover party for her 6th birthday.
I didn't know how a sleepover party would work with 6 year olds, so I was prepared to take anyone home who wanted Mom. But, to my surprise, no one wanted to leave. We sent out Barbie invitations and bought the matching goodie bags which resembled purses. You could easily make your own by cutting small paper lunch bags in the shape of a purse and decorate them with stamp, sequins, etc. I also had a secret weapon, my twelve year old daughter and her friend to help. As each of the girls arrived (five of them, my daughter made six) they were given their goody purses filled with a small bottle of nail polish, lip gloss, body glitter (all pink), a small brush and sponge rollers. They then got to decorate travel sized pillow cases. I painted each of their names ahead of time with bright colored paint pens. Use a brown paper grocery bag inside so the paint does not go through. The girls them embellished their case with the paint pens. I made several designs on a piece of paper and put it in the middle of the table for them to see. We put the cases in the laundry room to dry, just in time for the pizza to arrive with Dad (my husband picked it up on his way home from work). After pizza, the girls changed into their pajamas and set up their sleeping bags in the game room. My older daughter and her friend painted the girls' nails (on the kitchen floor in case there were any spills, which there were). We then ate cake and ice cream. This was followed by the beauty salon experience. They got to use their body glitter, lip gloss, brush and rollers. We finished up the evening with a movie. I started out sleeping with them, but they were all fine! In the morning, I ironed the designs on the pillow cases using a piece of paper grocery bag to cover the design. This helps the paint set so you can wash the case. The girls enjoyed doughnut holes, fruit, juice and milk for breakfast. They took home their Barbie purses filled with their beauty goodies along with their travel sized pillow and decorated cases, which some of them still bring over when they spend the night!
