This year my daughter is turning 6.  She wanted to do something different with some of her girl friends. So I came up with a day at the salon party .  I called a local harstylist that specializes in prom and pagent hair and arranged for her to style my daughter and 7 of her friends hair. Immediatly afterschool I picked up the girls and we headed straight to the hair shop. This particular place is owned by the sylist so I arranged for us to have the place to our selves.  This wasn't difficult because my daughter's birthday is in February so not much is going on as far as prom or anything. Before I picked up the girls I went to the salon and set up a small table with a pink tablecloth and pale purple tableware.  I wanted everything to be super girly so I used two beautiful iron cake stands that I have.  One held plates the other cupcakes which were easier than a whole cake.  The cupcakes were decorated with pale purple iceing and these adorable little high heeled shoes that I ordered from birthday express. For drinks we had pink punch and there were also other snacks(finger foods) for the girls to snack on.  Also a great thing to have would be the purse or high heeled shoe pinate from birthday express filled with hair ties, lipgloss, barretts and such.  I thought of this to late or I would have done it. When we got to the salon we sang happy birthday and my daughter blew out her candles. Then she got her hair fixed and sprayed with glitter hairspray.  while she was getting her hair done the other girls snacked and took turns getting their nails done by me. I ordered these cute little stick on nail decals from oriental tradeing that had hearts, butterflies, roses, etc. This really was a hit and a little different from plain old polish.  As each girl was finished with their hair a friend of mine helped them each make a tinsel halo. These are so pretty and easy.  I just got wire garland and curling ribbon from my local dollar tree.  To make these all you do is cut a length large enough to circle the girls head twice and tie several lengths of ribbon to the back of it. Use your scissors to curl the ribbon.  These are so cute and very inexpensive. It cost me about 30 cents for each halo.  Each girls hair took about 20 minutes which was just about enough time to do their nails, make the halo and have a snack. As each girl finished I took her picture so that we could send them a copy in their thank you card. After all the girls were done we took a group picture which I also included so that they could enjoy the memory of their day at the salon. The party lasted about 2 hours and was a huge success. It was also not to expensive $65.00 for hair- $8.00 per girl, $2.50 for halo supplies,$3.50 for the cupcake decorations, and about $25.00 for table ware and film developing   I made the cupcakes myself, they were super easy and much less expensive than ordering from a bakery. Oh and the invites were left over girly invites from the year before when I bought them at a discount store (big lots) in a package of 24. I wrote the parents a little note inside each one explaining our plans (no hair cuts and girls will still look like children- not teenagers)and a map to the hair salon as well as pick up time etc.  to the children we wrote: Please join me for a day at the salon.  We will have our hair fixed, our nails done, and make a fun craft.  Please RSVP so I can reserve you a place in the hair chair!  It was lots of fun and went very smooth. The girls are still talking about it!
