When my daughter turned 11, she wanted to do something different with her friends. We have a ski resort nearby and since my daughter's birthday is in their off-season, I was able to make some fairly inexpensive arrangments for a special day for her and 2 of her friends.  First of all, the day started at the resort's indoor pool. The girls had the pool to themselves for about an hour and there was lots of giggling. Next, we went to the little movie room where they had the pick of movies to watch while relaxing in big comfy chairs. After that, we had lunch in the very fancy restaurant.  There was only one older couple in the restaurant and they got a kick out of the little group of ladies trying so hard to be formal, but couldn't contain the giggling. After our meal, the waitress brought out a cake which I had preordered and we all sang to her. Last, but not least, we finished our day at the spa.  The 2 girls had manicures and pedicures and learned a lot of tips from the ladies in the spa.  They had their nails painted so they couldn't put their socks and shoes on for a while so I took my 3 girls, waddling out to the car in their little foam slippers, toes and fingers all pointed up to protect them. This may sound like an expensive day but since it was the off season, I ended up spending about the same as I would have on a traditional party.  It was worth every penny as it was filled with many wonderful memories that I'm sure they will always treasure.
