This year my 11 year old girl wanted a birthday sleepover that was different from the traditional pajama and movie party.
She wanted to feel really special and wanted it to be one that the girls would remember and cherish. We came up with the idea of a Spa Sleepover. The invitations indicated that each girl was to bring a bathing suit and slippers, and be prepared for a night of total relaxation. My house was transformed into Les Emily's Spa. Each girl was greeted at the door to have their hair wrapped up in a towel, to change into spa towel wrap (the swimsuits were worn under for modesty), and slip into their comfy slippers. The girls were paired by numbers of two to be rotated through each spa session. We decorated each room to offer different forms of relaxation, such as, Manicure & Pedicuresö room, Facials and Relaxation (complete with cucumber slices for the eyes), Whirlpool & Aromatherapy room (which also offered each girl a Shirley Temple Sprite & Cherry Juice Mixture Drink adorned with a stemmed cherry while relaxing in the whirlpool. Each room was equipped with soft classical music for mood setting. We even had a little child size table set up in the waiting room complete with children's magazines for entertainment while waiting their turn at their spa station. We rang a little bell when each spa session was over to indicate that it was time for the girls to rotate to the next spa station. We added an extra station of crafts for making their own Spa Salts. The little Salt Jars were purchased at a local craft store for under a dollar. My daughter and I make these cute little labels on the computer and adorned each jar with a little ribbon making cute keepsakes for each child to take home. The Spa Towel Wrap was made ahead of time by simply using a bath towel and sewing in elastic and a Velcro closure. We even got fancy and monogrammed each child's initial on each wrap. These were also given to each child at the end of the party. This party was a huge success. Each girl was made to feel so special and totally pampered. Tips: (1) We kept the sleepover limited to a small number of guest(6)to keep it very personal. It is also easier to keep a even number of guest for pairing up the girls for each session. (2) We invited a few high school age girls who were all dressed alike to be the "Spa Workers". These girls ran each spa station. This was a great big help since it allowed me to float around taking pictures and enjoying my child's party. (At the end of the party, the 'little girls' had a chance to put masks on the 'big girls'! It was great!)
