My daughter who was turning 9, decided she wanted to take some friends to the salon for a day. (getting updews, nails, facial)  So, we checked out some local salons (we live in a VERY rual area so "pickin's are slim") and $$OUCH$$.  A little too pricey for a load of 9 year olds.  My neighbor had the suggestion of going to a beauty school.  It turns out they do this quite a bit. What I loved about the school is that it is mostly teenagers studying to become beauticians and they were SO CUTE with my daughters girl friends.  The price was right too.  (about $7.00/child) This included hair updew, painted nails and makup.  For the invitations we made some sleeping masks out of felt and some cute purple gingham material with ribbon attached to the sides. (the part that ties around your head)  On the ribbon we attached a "ticket" for a "Spring Spa Day" printed on fun handmade paper with real flowers pressed into it. Never having gone to an actual spring spa day myself, we did our best trying to make it sound very upiddy and special. The kids met at our house, where we left the gifts, and then took them to the school. After, we brought them back to our house and had pettifores and fruit slush and opened presents. One of the girls said when her mother came to pick her up, "Mom, don't I look like a singing Star!"  I spoke to some of the mothers after the party and they mentioned that thier gilrs had left in thier updews for 2 or three days afterward. I think they really had fun. And talk about easy!!  The hardest part with this party was the invitations.  I HIGHLY recommend this one!
