My daughter is turning thirteen next month, and decided she wanted a spa theme for her birthday party. At first the idea was to take about ten friends to a nearby day spa, but that idea was very costly, so I created an at-home spa instead. My daughter and I thought it would be cute if we put room numbers on the doors of all the downstairs rooms, and created it into an overnight spa retreat. Since we have two bathrooms downstairs, one would be for the hair/nails/makeup and the other would be for an aromatherapy bath (all guests were instructed to bring bathing suits). Then, I would close the door to the living room and put a sign saying "rooms 1-10 (there were ten guests). I laid out mattresses and sleeping bags to look like beds, and put candles in the room. A week before the party, we mailed out the invitations which was girl wearing a bathrobe and a clay mask. On her eyes, I drew cucumbers that you could lift up, and underneath was the party information.  When the guests arrived, each one was led to their "sleeping quarter" and given a tour of the room. They were also each given a bathrobe and slippers (I got these from a nearby Hilton for $5 dollars each... not bad, especially since there were only 5 girls). They were each paired up with another girl, and were set loose to go to each station. I asked my two close friends and my sister to help be at the stations. At 6:00, they were called to dinner. We had set up a sit-down fancy restaurant type dinner, since it was a very posh "spa". I set the table with my nice cloth napkins and utensils, and arranged some flowers as the centerpiece. I also lit some candles for the restaurant effect. Earlier, I had typed up some menus on the computer, with selections such as chicken and pasta and my husband dressed up as a waiter (this was a hit!). The cake was a miniature wedding cake that made it look very fancy (I got recipe off google.com and my sister is a cake decorator... helpful!). After dinner, the girls watched some movies and went to sleep. In the morning, I set up a buffet breakfast (to add a special hotel touch, I asked the girls their "room" numbers and gave them a brief description of the breakfast food) with pancakes, bacon, eggs, and juice. The girls went home later with a bag filled with a clay mask, nail polish, scented soap, and other makeover goodies.
