Party Supplies

For my sons' fifth birthday we decided to do a Outter Space themed party for approximately 15 kids. .  The invitations were ones that I created myself.  I used a picture of a space shuttle lift off as the front cover with the heading...Let's blast off to Isaac's 5th birthday party. The inside gave the details of the party.. Mission date, time, Duarte Space Center as the location. I was lucky enough to get some ideas from the NASA website and incorperate them into the party. I purchased NASA Mission patches and T - shirts for each of the kids. I made sure that my son's shirt was different from the rest of the kids. When the kids arrived they were given treat bags stuffed with stickes and other goodies. Becuase the party was at my home, we used the living room and faimly room as well as the patio and backyard.  Thankfully I was able to get most of the decorations from Oriental Trading. In the living and family room, I hung up posters of the planets that I purchased at the NASA site. I also hung glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. The tables were decorated with UFO's that had fiberoptics coming out of the top of them.  I replaced all the light bulds in those rooms with blue and black bulbs.  I also hung plastic inflateable aliens and a space shuttle in various locations. In the patio, I covered that area completely with black canvas tarps and again stuck glow in the dark stars.  I also replaced the lights in there with black lights so that everything would glow.  I found a web site on the internet where I purchased glow in the dark paint.  The kids had a great time painting their creations on the tarps. Later I used this area to set up my sons 3D planetarium. The kids and the adults all came out to see the 10 minute show. In the back yard I had a bounce house that also fit into the theme. For games we did a moon rock hunt. The kids all got prizes for each of the rocks that they found. The prizes consisted for Astronaut stickes, glow in the dark balls, space pencils and erasers, alien men. We also did a musical solar system game (basically musical chairs, without the chairs). I found cut out pictures of the plantes and comets from the teachers supply store. I also had the kids do an activity with blow pens at thier own leisure. My cousin also volunteered to do some celestial face painting on the kids.  Thank goodness she is a pretty good artest, because those kids wanted alot more then moons and stars.  For dinner, I kept it pretty simple just hot dogs and hamburgers were served with chips and punch. I had the cake decorated to match the front of the party invitations. Just before the party was about to end we gathered the kids for the pinata. Of course in keeping with the theme, it was a space shuttle pinata.  Inside it was filled with Mars Bars, Pop Rocks, Milky Ways, and other goodies. All in all, it was quite an event, and one that everyone had a great time at.
