When my son turned 5 we had a robot party at home.
We decorated with red, black and silver balloons and streamers. We also printed robot coloring pages from the Internet, colored them and taped them around the house. (do a search on robot coloring pages and you will come up with many to choose from) My husband drew large poster size robots and we colored them in with markers. One of the posters went on the front door with streamers and balloons surrounding it. We covered the table with a silver Mylar tablecloth and had silver cups and paper plates. When the kids arrived they were given paper bags with handles to color and decorate with stickers to take home for a goody bag. Have each child put their own name on the bag. The games included: 1. Pin the birthday hat on the robot- We found a birthday robot coloring page and enlarged it to poster size. Then we cut out enough construction paper birthday hats for each child, wrote their names on them and let them take turns being blindfolded to place the birthday hat correctly on the birthday robot. 2.Marshmallow robots- Each child received a plastic bag with small and large marshmallows and toothpicks. The activity was for them to create a marshmallow robot. Then they got to eat their creation. 3.Robot walk-like cake walk only the kids step on pictures of robots instead of numbers. Use 4-5 different robot pictures depending on how many guests you have. I photocopied them so we had a circle of about 15 robots to walk on. When the music stops, whoever is standing on a certain robot picture wins a prize. Vary which robot is the winner and look to make sure each child gets a chance to win. 4. Robot says (like Simon says), and 5. Freeze dance-Play some upbeat music, everyone dances, wiggles, hops, etc. but they have to keep moving. Stop the music, everyone freezes in the position they were in when the music stopped. Kids love this and it helps to get out the wiggles before time to open presents. A circular piņata with a robot picture on the side was a hit before cake and ice cream. The cake was a rectangular frosted cake with an outline of a robot with black frosting. The shape was then filled in with miscellaneous candies from the bulk bins. Making the cake was almost as fun as the party for my son. After opening presents, each child went home with a goody bag and balloon. It was a lot of fun and the girls enjoyed it just as much as the boys.
