outer space birthday party for a 5 yr old. My nephew said he wanted an outer space party so i started thinking of
a great party that wouldnt break the bank. first i made the invitations they were made out of different colored construction paper folded in half., i then glued on planets and stars and moons all over the front and inside. newt i printed off the computer what i would write on the invitation. the front said "are you ready to blast off on an out of this world adventure?" on the iside flap it said " then get ready for xavier's 5th birthday party." on the other side was info for the date and time i used cute phrases such as "lift off time" "return to earth" "rsvp to mothership" next i thought of games to play luckily my nephews birthday is after easter i bought easter eggs (plastic any color) i had alot from ones that we had left over and i asked friens if they had any left over there was probably 75 eggs. i spray painted all the easter eggs green and put candies in some and then pieces of paper in 5 of the others that said you have won a prize. these eggs were used as "moon rocks" for a scavenger hunt in the back yard. i also just tossed out some candy and prizes to collect. when the guests first arrived they mad "moon rock bags" to keep their moon rocks in and prizes. i bought glow in the dark stars and stars and moons cut outs from the store and the kids got to decorate there bags and color them with markers. i also bought a bunch of glow in the dark necklaces for the kids for when it got a little darker. i got these from a dollar stor and they had these glow in the dark balls that you put together so we turned off all the lights in the living room and the kids ran around glowing in the dark pretending they were aliens. i made a bean bag toss out of a sheet of wood i bought at the hardware store with some craft paint. i cut out 5 holes of different sizes. and decorated the backround black with stars and planets so it looked like outerspace. i then made the bean bags out of fabric from the store and filled them with beans. i also did space face painting at the party as a time filler with aliens, stars, and spaceships. the kids loved this. for actual decorations i cut out from construction paper planets and stars and hung them from the ceilings with string i also taped them to our sliding glass doors and to the walls so the dinning room looked like you were in outer space. for the food we just barbqued but for an added twist we made all the dips for the chips different colors and told the kids it was space dip. we just added some food coloring and the kids loved it. the cake was the most time consuming but it couldnt have turned out better. i made two flat cakes and put chocolate icing on top with oreos smashed up in it to make it look like aplanets surface next i made little ufos out of two very small round cake pans. i made five because it was his fifth birthday party. to decorate them i covered them with chocolate icing and then put little yellow dots of icing along the edge to make it look like ufo lights.then out of the mini cupcake pans i made little aliens. to do this i put green food coloring in the cake mix then put green icing on top of each alien and inserted two pieces of a pull apart twizzels for the antennea. no one could believe i made the cake and all the kids loved eating the little aliens. at the end of the party i handed out any extra prizes i had to the kids making sure everyone got something. my nephew loved it and couldnt stop taking about it he says hes ready for an even better outer space party this year!
