Our son wanted to have a super" 8th birthday. He loves super heroes especially Spiderman and so that became our theme.
For Invitations we kept it simple and bought a set from our local party supply store. I got all of the decorations at a local dollar store: red and blue table cloths red and blue streamers redblue silver balloons. I made decorations by gathering as many of our spidey toys as possible. I opted for cupcakes: blue icing with a web piped on them and a small toy spider on each one. They looked great and the kids were thrilled. When the party guests arrived we had a table set up with black permanent markers as well as waterbase markers and red balloons. Each guest tried their hand at turning the red balloon into Spiderman. They also designed their own web target (an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of poster board)using waterbase. We put the "Spideys" around the yard and then we taped a target to each guests back. Our first game involved practicing our web shooting. I had decorated pails with web designs and filled with water. We had a large supply of "super hero water guns" and the boys enjoyed trying to shoot eachother's targets. At the end of a set time we removed the targets and we could all see who was hit the most as the marker would run off. Next our guests enjoyed a game of web tag. At the dollar store I had purchased some silly string and the boys used this to try to tag each other. When they had finished we had each of the boys demonstrate his spider strength by climbing the play structure. They were each able to hang or strike a pose at the top and we took pictures. For lunch I served spider hot dogs (hot dogs sliced on either end) cheese strings (spider cheese) green jello from the green goblin and green juice. There was also an assortment of snack foods available. After lunch we went swimming. In the pool I had many pool noodles as well as some Spiderman rings. The boys played spider noodle tag (the person who is it has to balance on the ring and use the noodles to move and to tag). I had also frozen some toys in green water and told the boys that the green goblin had come and tried to rob us. The ice floated in the pool (you could do this in a tub as well) and the boys had a riot seeing who could get the treasure out of the ice first. After the swim the boys had green freezies and then we opened presents. Before the party had started I had tied each loot bag with a very very long red or blue ribbon. I made individual webs and numbered each string. After present time I assigned each boy a number. They needed to find their number and untangle the string which led them to their loot bag. Each bag contained: Spiderman stickers spiderman keychain wall climbers silly string glasses (their "Peter Parker") and Spiderman candy. We had an amazing day. "
