This is the outline for my son's Spiderman party that we threw him for his 6th birthday. I decorated the main party room with a wall length banner of a city sky lined backdrop. I purchased a huge hanging plastic motif of Spiderman and a villain and stuck them to the back drop. I also made some spider mobiles, made from pom-poms, pipe cleaners, string and coat hangers. I hung these from the two ceiling fans I have in the room. I also lined the tables with red and green plastic table cloths and used red plastic cups, blue plastic plates, black cutlery and white serviettes. It was a big hit with all of his guests and their parents. I got lots of comments back, saying it was a fantastic party. Each parent said they could see all the excitement on each of the kids faces. 1. When the guests arrived, they all played outside on the swings and in the cubby house until everyone were accounted for. As soon as all of the children had arrived, we had them come inside and gather around me for a short story about a spider. While I was reading, everything was set out for the craft.   2. As soon as I finished reading the Spider story, I then introduced the mystery by telling the kids about a rash of break-ins in the neighbourhood, and of how I wondered if it could be the Green Goblin. I then told them about the gold that I had put in lockable chest and then buried some where safe in the garden. I impressed upon them that I knew the Green Goblin could never find or break into MY chest.   3. I then asked them if they would like to see my gold, and took them all outside to where I had the chest buried, and made a big production of digging it up and opening it up to reveal the gold.  When I finally opened it, we found that the gold had been stolen, and that a note had been left in its place.  The note said:  HA HA HA! I'VE GOT YOUR GOLD -- YOUR LITTLE HEADS ARE ALL FILLED WITH MOLD! YOU LITTLE KIDS CAN NEVER STOP ME -- I'M THE GREEN GOBLIN CAN'T YOU SEE?   4. CRAFT: We then talked about how we were going to have to solve this mystery ourselves because Spiderman was not able to be there. We decided that we were going to need to become super Heroes ourselves and needed to make our own special mask in order to catch the Green Goblin.  This led us into the craft time where we made homemade "masks". I previously bought pre-made plain masks and had the kids decorated with pens jewels glitter feathers etc. 5. GAME: After we finished craft time I had my father stand in another room and pop a balloon with another note taped to it and then he hid so that they would think that it might have been the Green Goblin. When we all ran to see what the noise was they found a note which said: "YOU THINK THAT NOW YOU CAN STOP THE GREAT GREEN GOBLIN? SOME WEB-SLINGING PRACTICE IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED IF YOU EVER HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH THE DEED!" I then took the children outside for some web-slinging "practice" (the game). For the game the children divided up into teams of three each having one person to pretend they were a "Villain".  The rest of the team had to use their roll of "web" (toilet paper) to try to wrap up their villain first from the neck down before the other team. We did not give out prizes for the team that won - the joy and adulation of being the winners would have to be enough.  6. AFTER-NOON TEA:  After such hard web-slinging practice I suggested that we take a well-deserved break and eat some party food. For the party food I tried to stick with the whole Spiderman theme so I prepared jelly cups with red blue and green jelly. I also put out red and green frogs jaffas patty cakes with red and blue icing filled punch bowls with lemonade and red blue and green food colouring in it and just other normal party food as well. We also had the birthday cake at this point in time at the party. While they were eating my Dad snuck out and began hiding all of the presents that the children had brought for my son outside in the garden.   7. PRESENT HUNT:  After they had all finished with afternoon tea I suggested that we all go and open the birthday boy's presents.  When we got out into the living room where all of the presents had been we discovered that they had all been stolen and found a note in their place. The note said: "NOW I'VE GOT THE PRESENTS TOO AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU LITTLE KIDS CAN DO.  YOU COULD NEVER FIND ALL OF MY HIDING PLACES; I'VE HIDDEN THEM ALL IN DEEP DARK SPACES! The kids all then proceeded to go on a present hunt to find all of the missing gifts.   8. THE CAPTURE: While the kids were searching my dad went off where the kids couldn't see him and got dressed in his "Green Goblin" costume. This costume consisted of a large black cape with a glow in the dark green mask. While all the kids were searching for my son's presents the Green Goblin made a surprise visit and all the kids chased him around outside. They cornered him but all were a little worried about unmasking the Green Goblin so I did. They were very surprised to see that it was the Birthday Boy's Pop. As the Green Goblin wouldn't tell the children where he hid the presents the kids continued to look for them. When they were finally found and brought back to the living room the birthday boy opened them and of course they all had a blast playing with the new gifts for a while. My Dad set up the last activity while all the children were busy looking at the birthday boy's presents. 9. THE GOODIE BAGS: Before it was time to go home each child was to find the start of a trail of string that was weaved in and around things out the back  that made a huge web. As they followed their length of string untangling it they would find their goody bag to take home with them. Each goody bag had their gold their super Hero Masks Spiderman stickers some candy and a CD of the Spiderman theme songs. I made the goody bags out of brown paper bags with a picture of a spider and its web pasted to the front. It also said ˜Thank You For Coming. 10. GOING HOME: Just before it was time to go home I had the kids stand in front of the huge city lined sky banner that hung over the wall with an equally huge Spiderman motif and villain hanging over the city. I took a picture of the group and used it as a thank you photo to send to everyone. I also handed over a certificate from Spiderman thanking the kids for capturing the Green Goblin in his absence. I said that he had emailed it me and I printed them off for each of the children. It was a great party and it was really fun to see their reactions to each new phase of the mystery. "
